This piece had an immediate impact on me. The colors are bold, even with a frequent use of tones leaning more towards pastels, and the shading is very well done. I love the use of texture, the brush-strokes create a beautiful piecey shading and the traditional medium shines through.
The main, and only, problems I had were the slight errors made: there is some inconsistency with the light source due to the use of opaque white, the retractable handle on the left needle is rather bent, and there are minor outlining errors with the black ink.
On the note of content, originality is definitely present: despite the growing frequency of androgynous, bright-haired boys I could distinguish this one from the rest. I especially appreciate the sweater: even though so many artists go overboard with trinkets and charms on their characters in this style, this top has impact with just a spare bit of detailing in the buckles and hearts. You definitely utilized costume in creating a distinctive look, as well as embellishments such as the needles and his unique set of piercings.
In summary, this artwork had near-ignorable flaws but otherwise displayed a good knowledge of character design of natural media.
