Long a protectorate of Johor, Negeri Sembilan, a federation of Nine States, was taken gradually
by the British starting in 1873, and in 1897, as a whole,
was placed under single British Resident with Federated Malay States.
It endured Japanese occupation in WWII, joined Federation of Malaya in 1984,
and became a state of Malaysia in 1963.
It is located on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia, just south of Kuala Lumpur.
Malays constitute 55% of the population, Chinese 24.3% and Indians 15.2%.
