Description Llivia

Wiki[link]

Llivia is a town of Cerdanya, province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain, that forms a Spanish exclave surrounded by the French territory
(Pyrenees-Orientales department).
Area: 12.83 sq km
Pop : 1.600

The exclave is seperated from the rest of Spain by a corridor of about 2 km width, which includes the French communities of Ur and Bourg-Madame.
Llivia was not ceded to France in the Treaty of Pyrenees in 1659 as the treaty stipulated that only villages were to be ceded, and
Llivia was considered a city due to its status as the ancient capital of Cerdanya.

In 1939, at the end of the Spanish Civil War, there was some discussion of Llivia remaining a free territory of the defeated Republican government,
but this was never carried out.
