Description
Very relieved to say that it is done finally...Oil paints take all the time they need to dry and this here wasn't an exception, with work almost on a daily basis it took me one month to complete. The photo was taken before varnishing, as after that it might be very hard to view with the shine of the varnish on.
Size is 75x112 cm (oil paints on canvas) and it is the first of the several to follow for my solo show on September.

The process has been an amazingly interesting one, especially with glazing and scumbling techniques over the basic layer (dead layer)

I will make a short remark though, it would be much easier for you to realize that this...thing you have called a beard it is actually the strongest asset of this painting giving it a 3D feeling IF you could see it in real and of course if this photo was closer to the real colors...

It's pretty hard to critique something this well executed but I'll try first I love the colors you chose and the precise lining and strokes and everything and the shading is amazing but could be a little better the hands are also amazing but maybe make the lines more visible or something the eyes very great use of shading colourings etc and for the whole piece all together it's amazing needs barely any thing to correct like this is one of the best amazingly awesome pieces I've ever seen and critiqued and it's very hard to critique but it's amazing great work

im so impressed omff!! you have all the highlights right and its just so amazing. her blonde hair gosh i am gonna die. and her hand movement girl, her face dude. she is literally putting on that sexy face and you can see for the reflection, it is flawless. you can see how the back fits the reflection. Now back to the highlights, she has a very bright face, and you can see the shine in that orange blondish hair. her face is perfection. her eyes and her nose, her lips. you got the lips on point girl. it has a bit of wrinkles but some parts are smooth so it doesnt look to fake. this looks completely realistic so bravo

You asked for critique and it's intimidating to critique a piece this well-executed but I'm going to try anyway. Beginning with the specific elements I love: The palette in this piece is very organic, yet also very rich. The very subtle colour temperature contrasts - especially the warm red lipstick against the crimson lips, and the two-hue blue on the curtain highs/shadows (if my eyes aren't deceiving me) - make the image take on a wonderful visual depth while not distracting with chroma-clutter. I'm also loving the detail on the lips, the back shoulder shadow, and the almost plastic way the hair is painted. It looks like actual glossed curly hair, not the spaghetti/flat thing most people would have going on up there. The eyes are superbly emotive, and the colour they have is brilliant, clear, and really stands out since the only similar hue I'm seeing is an undertone in the hair.
Okay, now for complaints. Anatomically there are some things that make me wonder what's going on:
- The reflection's right wrist (left to the viewer) , the angular shadow should be just a hair more dorsal. I'm trying to make this same pose right now and it's putting awkward strain on my hand. It's possible, but it might feel more fluid and model-y less turned out.
- The breasts either seem too short - like, top-to-bottom - or too high on the body. The left-to-the-viewer breast also seems flatter and smaller than the right one. If the model is leaning forward, this would make sense; but for that to look right there'd need to be a further-out crop on the scene and more of an arch to the body, or more of a shadow under the breast-zone of the top.
- The orange shadow to the right of the eyes is a bit flat-looking, and makes the face seem angular in odd directions to me.
- I love the anatomy of the rightmost hand in the frame, The middle hand has something weird going on with the middle two fingers. They look lobster-claw-ish because the middle finger looks like it's going over the ring finger. The hand in the non-reflection also has some proportion issues I think - the nails, especially on the ring finger, look very long and the proximal phalange (wrist-most bone) of that finger looks long too, about half the size of the rest of the finger. It should only be about 35-40% of the length and look even shorter on a bent finger. The index finger looks fat compared to the others, and the nail seems like it should have the same rimlighting as the others.
- The blue shadow below/right of the mouth might be a little too blue. It's distracting when surrounded by the earth tones and crimson. Not terribly, though.
- The shirt doesn't seem as detailed as the rest of her. Almost like you got tired and didn't finish it to the same level. Unless that's intentional; then disregard.
Overall, and especially at a glance, this piece is fantastically well executed and very eye catching with all of the contrasts you've developed. Great work!

oils is almost all i do lately and i am very happy about it! Its a nice period of time where i will work with my brushes and try to set some values and check on potentials of my skill with them. Also i am trying to make my patience work, an oil painting of the size of one square meter loaded with details doesnt come to an end in 5 days. It needs way more than that.
