well there was a manga about when Maryjane (spelled wrong) told Lucy that Natsu might have a crush on her, in the anime (episode 50) they added that part of the manga and added Juvia with the love potion which isn't in the manga, but it was funny ^^

Maybe they're in the Spirit world?
Here's my little theory:
The Dragons are originally from the Spirit world, but were living here in Earthland. However, humans began to hunt them, thinking they were dangerous, and soon there were only 3 dragons (Igneel, Metalicana, and Grandeeney) left in the world, and their magical powers were dwindling. They were on the verge of extinction. Until, they met a kindred spirit. 20 years before the story started Layla fell 'sickly' and resigned her position as a celestial mage. Even though she wouldn't reveal her reason, it was because she began to support the remaining dragons in the world with her magic, much like she would do with her celestial spirits. Her spirit energy was beginning to weaken due to keeping the 3 spirits sustained. When her daughter was at the age of ten, her body reached her limit and she died. On the day she died, the force that was keeping the dragons to the Earth was gone, thus they returned to the Spirit land like other celestial beings do, which would explain the linked disappearance.
Lucy Heartfilia will most likely inherit this ability from her mother and bring Natsu, Gajeel, and Wendy's 'families' back, except in some weird turn of events, she won't face the same problems her mother did.
Think it sounds accurate? I think it's a definite possibility, don't you?
And yes, this is COMPLETELY my theory that comes from my totally twisted state of mind. By how the story is right now, I think this idea is likely. What do you think?

yeah, I can see that happening. But, if they really are from the spirit world then they should have a lot of magic (more than loki)to stay on earth for a really long time. I hope you're right, but I also hope you're wrong cause I don't want to see Lucy suffer like her mom did, I will cry

I know, but I mean, if you think about it, dragons HAVE been on Earth for a really long time, thousands of years maybe. So maybe it was around that time that they began losing their magic.
And I don't think that Mashima-sensei would let her main female character suffer TOO much. Maybe just around the same amount Elie did, if not a bit more. It'll be painful to read at first, but then, if you think about it, it wouldn't be a good manga if i didn't capture our emotions. No feelings=No good. 'sides, if it's Fairy Tail, we all know the end is going to be profusely stupid and fun

Yeah, I hate reaching the ends of mangas. It makes me wanna cry >///< I just read Rave Master and the end was soo touching, I almost did cry (but since there were other people in the room, I figured that would be weird, so I settled for cooing "Awww" and "I can't believe it's over" instead.)
