Description Heavily inspired by Where the Wild Roses Grow by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Yes, the roses are dead, along with the girl.

Heavy illustration board, 8"x10", watercolor paint and pencil, India ink pen, white gouache and white charcoal.

Thank you! My scanner killed it a little bit in the deeper tones, but it caught the girl very well.

Looks a lot like a Russian Rusalka--water-ghost with a purpose.

I've never heard of the rusalka, I'll have to look it up. In the song, the girl is killed by her lover by the bank of a river. There's other songs in a similar vein, Down by the Willow Garden (or just The Willow Garden) and Banks of the Ohio.
