Because I'm a fanfiction writer, and I have my pride and dignity. Fanfiction is an art form, too. It's on dA, it needs to become a more respected art. I do realize that the really good fanfics are hard to find amongst all the crap, but you know what? We are out there, waiting to be discovered. You just have to look for us, and don't give up hope.I do ask that you please

Fanfictions are just like books, some are good some are bad. If one claims all fanfictions are bad they are no different then someone claiming hatefully all books are bad.
In short theyβre uncouth fools who probably lack talent to come up with something good themselves. Opinion is one thing but haters tend to lack intelligence with their hate majorly as they ring all of it as the same like complete idiots.
Never give up as it takes only a wise, genius, and creative mind to come up with any good work of literature.Β

Yes, you have to sort through all the crappy ones out there, but some are good. In a sense, it's the same with artwork.
(And doesn't it do your head in when people don't start a new line for a new speaker? Or is it just me?)

Secondly, I was wondering if you know of a way to put a kind of watermark on pieces of writing that one submits to DA. I'm pretty sure one doesn't exist (at least for writing), but I thought I'd ask anyway

Fanfiction is different challenge from original writing, because all the rules of the universe have already been made up. It already has it's characters which you must strive to keep in character, it already has it's settings and plots that the fanfictioner must keep in mind while writing their piece.
Some of the best (along with THE best) stories I ever read were fan fiction. It's sad that it doesn't get more love here.

If you are able to take that idea of using another persons setting, characters and sometimes plot and make it your own through a unique and creative way, then yes I will consider it art. Otherwise it is simply a copy of the authors work with your own story put in.

Agree with this completely. Writing fanfics is a passion of mine and I wouldn't have been as good a writer as I am today if it hadn't been for my passion of gaming and anime story line

Of course it's an art! Those who think that...well,no offense but those who think writing of any kind isn't art are stupid. There's good fanfiction and bad fanfiction I still support it either way though. I dislike it when people say it's 'illegal and beginning writers shouldn't use it' yeah,some author said that. Anne Rice is actually against fanfiction...so what right? I write my own original story's too,but fanfiction for me is just a fun hobby and I can improve my writing as well
