Niiiice, man. Great composition, very good use of white space

Only thing that throws it a little for me is the typography. The differing sizes kinda screws with the leading... but that's a pretty nitpicky complaint.

Cheers man... mmm, white space

Yeah, the type-setting I'm still working on. I wanted to follow a more western comic style with my speech bubbles, so the different sizings were meant to show emphasis on words (like in Marvel comics etc), having trouble making it look neat though.

I haven't looked extensively, but I actually can't find much reference in my humble collection of comics that demonstrates use of multi size fonts in a single bubble. Only bolding and colouring and whatnot. You've got me curious, I want to look further into it, but I'm suspecting that maybe larger words are kept to a single line of the bubble so as not to throw the leading? Or perhaps in a single bubble by itself? Funny after reading so many comics, I would have thought I'd be able to visualise them better without reference

Yeah, when I looked back through my own comic collection (mostly consisting of Deadpool to be honest) and it is mostly bolding... however the typeface I'm using is a free one and doesn't have a "bold" function. I guess I could rasterise the type and then stroke it... but that's way too much effort Eh, toned it back a bit in the next go-around anyway after your input.

I loved Deadpool... Ed McGuinesses' art... I used to stare at it for hours... sorry I'm having a moment here

Yeah, feck stroking it, that is far too much work for dialogue. Maybe rummage around for a similar font that has some weights? I assume you know about it (but just in case you don't) but Blambot has a whole bunch of free fonts on offer: [link]

I've actually been using ReFont to get my typefaces... shall check Blambot out though, seems to have a better selection for comic work that's for sure.

I love the environment work, which is my weakness when it comes to cg

Haha, cheers mate... it's been awhile since I last did some proper environment work, so this is actually the second attempt I made Also had trouble since I don't generally work with a cold pallette... note the warmer lighting on the girls in the front. That's about the point where I gave in

I've read through only three volumes of Gunslinger Girls in Thai edition, and just got the 4th one released yesterday.

Your Henrietta is so adorable!
(i've always thought that Jose was the really lucky one to be with Henrietta-chan al the times, lol)

and MERRY CHRISTMAS (:

Well at least you're still getting official releases: ADV stopped the English version at vol. 6. Fortunately, thanks to the mob over at Cyborg Central it's been scanlated to vol. 11 now, I think?

I was always more a fan of Triela, but yes, Henrietta is adorable

And Merry Christmas to you as well

Nice picture, I really like how you painted the background. Although I have to admit I thought the character were talking about a paintball match or something.

By the way, Merry Christmas!

Haaaa. XD A VERY ASTUTE OBSERVATION, RICO. Ô.o

(Actually Rico got an eerie injection of teh smerts in that 2-part OAV ...aaaand then she goes right back into derp-mode, like, nearly letting herself drown because the sight of all that water was so lovely. XD)

Man, PLH. I really need to get back into this fray. No more excuses. '-';

ANYWAY! Love the piece; nice stacking of background/midground/foreground.

wraith11 In reply to 47ness [2009-12-26 15:36:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but Rico's derp-ness is kinda sweet in it's own way

Cheers mate... heh, doing this kinda reminded me that I've not done any sort of epic-background pieces for awhile, should so something about that.

Wellll~ how often do we get to go hiking through the Alps to do observational sketching/painting..... 8U

wraith11 In reply to 47ness [2009-12-26 15:59:17 +0000 UTC]

I believe the term "very rarely" may be applied liberally here. I've only ever been to the Alps once, and that was in summer time so all the snow was mostly turning to slush... quite aside from which I spent most of that hike being giddy from altitude and lack of oxygen

47ness In reply to wraith11 [2009-12-26 16:07:18 +0000 UTC]

Man, just from hearing about it from family, Italy's a tough place to vacation in- if only because the tourism traffic is SO absolute that people are forced to visit the snowy places in the summer and the balmy, coastal places in the autumn or winter. ...and even then it's still filled with tourists. wow, are they in a paintball fight or something?

Love the strokes that you use to emphasis the environment, and nice posture and characters. Love the guns and rifles they are carrying.

👍: 0 âĐ: 1

wraith11 In reply to victortky [2009-12-25 14:12:58 +0000 UTC]

No, it's a real firefight. The girls however are Cyborg units. The two younger girls are Gen 1 cyborgs, and so are resonably resistant to small-caliber rounds. Petra however is a Gen 2 and so is less sturdy and powerful than the other two but has a longer lifespan and more flexible conditioning. However running out into a hail of bullets could be a less than healthy experience for her, hence why she's a little dubious

victortky In reply to wraith11 [2009-12-25 14:16:04 +0000 UTC]

ouch, that's gonna be a problem....good thing they are cyborgs...I initially thought they are humans and the opponents are using paintballs LOLz.

I see, well, different generations have strengths and weaknesses. But running into a hailstorm of bullets is not wise nevertheless.
