Description Dr. Hank McCoy.

I was just reading the other day that Beast is finally going to be in the next X-Men movie... so I had to do this picture, cause he's my favorite of the X-Men (I am a science major after all).

I was in a hurry to finish this one up (gotta go to work), so hopefully I didn't miss anything.

Dude, I don't know what you're talking about. This is awesome. I think you did a way better job than I did of conveying the fact that he uses his feet like extra hands. Plus, I just like your style. It's very "hip", as the kids say.

Incidentally, what are your opinions regarding the now two film portrayals of Beast? Do you think either actors have done him proper justice?

Eh. The way his fingers are situated it looks like he is about to flip someone off. Or saying, "Stuff you!".

This does make me want to draw Beast again though.

To be honest, I didn't watch the new X-Men movie. I refused. I read something by the director where he was defending his reasoning for changing the story line, and he basically thumbed his nose at the fans. I did see a picture of the design, and I didn't like it. He looks more like a blue Wolfman.

I thought the face was a little better in X3, and Kelsey Grammar's voice was perfect, but he didn't look much like a superhero... and he moved a bit too much like an old man.

iamfergie In reply to WonderDookie [2011-08-17 00:05:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the new movie royally screwed up the timeline. Even the minor details were all wrong, like Havok not being Cyclops's younger brother, but some random distant relative. It was weird.

I honestly didn't expect to like Kelsey Grammer as Beast, but then... I kind of did. Yeah, he was too old for the part, but he had that whole nerdy-and-old-fashioned-but-dignified thing down pretty well.

Yeah. I think that the Kelsey Grammer attitude fit really well for the film, I just thought that the design was a bit unexciting. As little as I like CG, I think that would be the best way to do Beast. He's meant to move in a sort of inhuman way, which just doesn't work with people in costumes. Then have Kelsey Grammer do the voice.

I haven't picked up an X-Men comic in years. Does he still look like the beast from Beauty and the Beast?

Lorentzian Conditions in Quantum Gravity? Come one, Hank. You can do better than that! Hawking writes books for the layman. You should be reading the newest research papers! That's what real scientists do, that is.
Anyway...this is awesome, man!

You really do get into these movies of your top tens aye. Clever background. pastel and contrast is an odd combo, but i'll never get tired of making fun of your personal lame purple affair and now it's affecting your sig too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WonderDookie In reply to a4anner [2005-11-08 01:50:20 +0000 UTC]

oh no no... X-men isn't a top ten... I really didn't like that movie. I actually did this one after losing interest in the movie top ten. I was trying so hard to actually finish a series. I still haven't done my #1. I have it all drawn out in my head, just not on paper.

I need to just go through and take out the purple on the drawings you haven't commented on yet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

a4anner In reply to WonderDookie [2005-11-08 06:14:32 +0000 UTC]

what IS your #1 fav movie anyway. You keep mentioning... and perhaps it's on the main page and instead of typing here, I could be clicking away, and found out by now

Are you really gonna take the purple out? In that case, I better hurry up and finish browsing already (I could save the insults for later)

WonderDookie In reply to a4anner [2005-11-09 07:56:40 +0000 UTC]

Fellowship of the Ring is my favorite. I grew up with those stories, so the movies were just amazing to me. (and such beautiful landscapes).

I AM actually going to have to take the purple out of this one. The more I look at it, the more I realize that pastel purple was a terrible idea.

a4anner In reply to WonderDookie [2005-11-10 02:14:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. what were you thinking.
Lord of the rings is an incredible series of movies. Until it was overrated, I loved it too. (I have a habit of avoiding anything the whole crowd goes for)

I never thought of Kelsey Grammer as Beast, but... now that it seems it's going to happen, I can't understand why I never considered it before.

WonderDookie In reply to wickedorin [2005-06-05 08:03:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Grammar can do the voice, but I always thought that Jon Favreau would have been perfect to play beast personally.

deep-design [2005-05-25 17:13:09 +0000 UTC]

Great character style, you really harnessed the personality. One thing, I have to wonder why his face is brighter than the rest of him o.O Nice reflections! Do you use the pen tool?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WonderDookie In reply to deep-design [2005-05-25 19:37:05 +0000 UTC]

The face is a different color for 2 reasons, one technical, and one conceptual.
First of all I wanted to make it a different color so that it would pop out from the rest of the body, and secondly I figured that his face would probably have much finer shinier hair (thus the more vibrant blue).

Oy, and for the reflection all I did was copy the whole beast figure before I started shading, then I turned it into a grouped image, turned it upside down on a lower layer, and messed with the Alpha value.

deep-design In reply to WonderDookie [2005-05-26 14:04:42 +0000 UTC]

I see, it does draw your eye very well. About the pen tool, I meant over all what do you think you use the most?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WonderDookie In reply to deep-design [2005-05-26 18:01:13 +0000 UTC]

OH! Now I see what you were asking. I was confused the first time.
I mostly actually use the "line tool" to draw straight lines, then I mess with the shape with the mouse til it lines up with the mark in my sketch. And then I use the bucket tool to fill it all in.

Thank you much man. The pipe seemed like kind of an oxymoron to me. You traditionally see smart people smoking pipes, but is McCoy TOO smart to smoke? I stuck it in there anyway though.

I thank you much. Yeah, I've always been a fan of the X-men myself. It always seemed cool to my that the characters got their powers through evolution and mutation, instead of being blased by gamma beams (I swear there are more gamma beam accidents in comics than traffic accidents).
