Absolutely beautiful as always. I really love how realistic your wolves look, body shape wise.
This guy looks a little patchworked to me though. With the different types of fur textures and colours, it makes it look funny. Have you ever tried air brushing your furs to get them a different colour? Instead of using all the different fabrics.

WolfknightlordJ In reply to AnimalArtKingdom [2011-11-10 05:21:04 +0000 UTC]

I don't have an airbrush, and though I do understand that sometimes it looks nice, I do prefer using the appropriate fabric color in my work generally.

I usually use longer piles for my wolves, but the colors I had available did not have the preferred length which makes their seams more visible. This wolf also had a large, large number of patterns and colors, which in retrospect, I should have cheated and painted on, but I'm quite stubborn.

AnimalArtKingdom In reply to WolfknightlordJ [2011-11-10 05:25:23 +0000 UTC]

Ah okay I see I understand that it's difficult to find the right furs. I know that in the fabric store near me, they don't have a huge selection at all for furs. But I am lucky, I work at Stuffed Animal House in the Display/Manufacturing department, so I have access to all the furs

WolfknightlordJ In reply to AnimalArtKingdom [2011-11-10 05:32:59 +0000 UTC]

ohh. That makes a huge difference. I have several large trashbags full of fur fabric I had to order to get all the variety I needed, and I still don't have some colors I am asked to use.

The colors on this guy were so specific it was hard to get a good match. Usually I can find a similar color... [link]

Usually it works out better, like my Iberian Wolf. I really need a 1 inch pile for the body. Anything else is too short or too long.

AnimalArtKingdom In reply to WolfknightlordJ [2011-11-10 05:40:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes I see, this guy needs to be pretty specific. Well you did a terrific job with what you had

I can tell that wolves are hard to work with. They have the different fur lengths and what not. Challenging work indeed!

My next project, I am working on a Red Fox Plush. That's going to be a difficult one, especially with the big bushy tail.

WolfknightlordJ In reply to AnimalArtKingdom [2011-11-10 05:42:04 +0000 UTC]

I did my own red fox ages ago. XD. I don't know what scale you are working with, but really nice fox-colored fur does wonders for its overall appearance since they only have 2-3 colors on their body. I usually go for a bit longer pile than my wolves, but I don't know if that's too helpful.

AnimalArtKingdom In reply to WolfknightlordJ [2011-11-10 14:35:38 +0000 UTC]

I think I am going to try out something smaller first, about 14" long. Then if I can master the pattern, I would like to try a life size fox Your plush is really inspiring. Your work definitely sparked the motivation in me.
Yeah, they seem simple colour-wise, it's only going to be more difficult finding the longer pile fur. Our furs at my work aren't all that long/the right colour.

WolfknightlordJ In reply to AnimalArtKingdom [2011-11-10 14:36:47 +0000 UTC]

Cool, the one I did was lifesized, and I used about 2 inch long faux fur. I ended up staining it a little darker, but the luxury fox-type fur I got was really good for the project.

Yes, exacto knives make things a lot easier, but it is really hard on the wrists and hands after a while.

WOOOAAA! Nice work and what a very generously detailed pelt! It must've taken wads of time to put together. I hope you had a nice pizza break after this one. ^^ Absolutely gorgeous.

WolfknightlordJ In reply to SaritysAnimation [2011-11-10 01:14:10 +0000 UTC]

NOOOPE, I went back to studying. Blegh, it too much longer than I thought because of all that detail, like triple the normal time. It made me think I should have probably asked for more, but I wasn't totally happy with it either. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaritysAnimation In reply to WolfknightlordJ [2011-11-10 01:28:03 +0000 UTC]

Haha I hear you on both counts. Nothing worse than devoting an eternity on a product you're not even satisfied with in the end huh. It happens now and then (and gawd do I hate it). >_< It still takes lots of skill and devotion to quality to produce what you do, so no need to sell yourself short. (Says the hypocrite who's never had the cajones to request proper compensation herself xD)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WolfknightlordJ In reply to SaritysAnimation [2011-11-10 01:32:17 +0000 UTC]

lol. Well, it isn't fair to change the price quote now, but I'll note for the future that this much detail takes an eternity to cut out, much less to sew. It took me almost a whole week and some change of mostly straight work to do.

SaritysAnimation In reply to WolfknightlordJ [2011-11-10 01:38:37 +0000 UTC]

LOL Yeah I guess the best you can prolly do is charge based on your best estimate of the time it'll take. Are you using a machine btw or is your work still 100% hand stitched?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WolfknightlordJ In reply to SaritysAnimation [2011-11-10 01:43:12 +0000 UTC]

Still hand-stitched, though projects like these make me want to be a convert. XD.

SaritysAnimation In reply to WolfknightlordJ [2011-11-10 03:00:15 +0000 UTC]

The trouble would more than pay itself off. If ever you overcome your reluctance to take the hurdle, I highly recommend this sweet puppy. [link] It's an amazing deal for the brand and my sister ~PeaceFluffles (who in fact just recently learned machines and got it herself) can attest to its awesomeness. Though you should never be blamed for keeping your handmade work more artistically valuable over choosing efficiency. I just plain don't have the patience to stick to a single project stitch by stitch like you do. xD
