Sonic/Irish is based on a four-leaf clover.
Amy is a ladybug.
Blaze is a maneki neko or fortune cat.
And shadow is a black cat with an umbrella (I always heard it was bad luck to open an umbrella inside a house

I think it originates from Ireland. Ladybugs help farmers by eating pest insects like aphids, so the belief that they bring good luck sprung from something like that
