USE YOUR WORDS, YOUNG ONE, THEY ARE YOUR STRENGTH.
Probably because I haven't uploaded anything that glows in the past 24 hours.

It's hard, but at the same time, fun. Which is why I'm glad I have him. And thank you! I really tried to emphasize his eyes, and they're one of my favorite things to draw.

Yes, there are quite a few muses. There are the original three, and depending upon what time period of Greek mythology you study, the names will vary. But most of the muses have their own specific function - another one of my favorites is Calliope, the muse of epic poetry. So, if someone was going to specifically need epic poetry, they'd talk to Calliope, though a lot of times it's more generalized as in just 'talking to the muses'. I know this is kind of a cop out, but here is the Muse's wiki: [link]
Dear god, I love Greek mythology. I want to learn more about it every day.
And thank you! This particular background was actually more of a quick sketch, but it set the scene I wanted and wasn't overly complicated because I wanted the focus on the characters. But I'm really glad you like it. And god, sand is SO HARD to make to not look like plastic! D;

Not a cop-out, I assure you...Wikipedia is great for learning a general overview of bigger topics, although you have to watch it on the more controversial subjects.
It seems that they refer to the specific muse they need as just "muse" in some of the epics, unless that's just the translator having a hard time. Strange. Wish they'd put that particular fact in the footnotes, but alas, one must fill it up with the more obvious "who is Athena" definitions which, by the time you've hit a college literature class, should be out of the realms of needing an explanation. XD Greek is awesome, wish they'd kept it on the History channel's "Clash of the gods," but unfortunately they switched over to Anglo-Saxon and European before they even broke the ice.
No problem! Thanks for answering my question, I should have remembered that there were at least three, given how even culturally-illiterate Disney used them as a plot device... XD

Wiki is definitely a good resource, you just have to check the references. I just always feel like a dick posting things from Wiki...I don't know why.
That's weird. I'll ask my friend about it, he was my teacher that taught Classical Literature in 12th grade to me, and he'll know what's up, see if there is a reason they refer to the muses so vaguely, and if there are any instances of them being prayed to/called upon by name.
Are you serious? People at a college level need to be taught who Athena is? STOP, WORLD, YOU'RE HURTING ME.
Oh god, HAHAHAHA. Every time I watch Hercules I laugh a little about the horrible inaccuracies. But then again, turning something as perverse and violent as the Greek gods into something Disney is really going to need a lot of molding, isn't it?

I feel cheated because they omitted the fact that Zeus totally raped bitches by turning into various animals, ie; swan, bull.

XD Ahahahaha, somehow I think that would exceed the G rating. :3 Knowing some of the sick minds at Disney though, I'm sort of surprised they didn't hint at it. XD
