Mirth's adult life has been dedicated to helping others. Since joining the City Watch she has training on par with soldiers and has used the skill to defend civilians from monsters and men alike. She took this work seriously and trained more than most of her peers to ensure she was always strong enough to help. In a fight she puts others before herself and she does the same in other aspects of life often giving her precious time or coin to anyone who needed it more.
– Boisterous | Hedonistic | Naive –
To be heard in the garrison one must be loud. Sometimes forgetting herself, Mirth can be louder and more familiar than she ought to be in the moment. She enjoys games, drinking and luxuries that she often can't afford. Spurred on my her god's quest, she spends much of her free time partaking in self-indulgent activities until or unless something more important comes along. She still believes in the inherent good of all people despite anything she may witness to teach her otherwise. People only do bad things because of their circumstances. A noble view of the world that leaves her vulnerable to deception and betrayal.
||Background
Mirth came from a humble background. She lived in a small village, a close knit community where everyone knew everyone and the hardships of daily life were shared amongst each other. Her mother died during childbirth but she was never lonely or without a parental figure. Her father, Sunil was a merchant who travelled back and forth between their humble village and the larger towns trading the wares that everyone had made and bringing back whatever was needed. His importance and kindness to the village meant that no one cared about his purple skin and horns. While he was out of town, Mirth was looked after by other families, each treating her like their own. It was a idyllic life.
When Mirth was 11 she deemed herself old enough to travel with her father and he, unable to say no, took her along. For the first time she saw the world outside of her own village and learnt that it was bigger than she'd ever imagined. She met strangers, some kind, some mean. Sunil taught her more about trading and how to spot a good deal or barter. Her life at home has been comfortable but this was new and it was the best two weeks of her life. The returned home in high spirits but they were quickly dampened. As they approached their home wispy trails of smoke were reaching into the sky. They rode in as quickly as they could but the damage was long since done. Three soldiers from the nearby city milled around the area, they'd been sorting through the rubble and putting out fire but were about to leave. They explained to the pair that the village was attacked a few nights ago and they hadn't found any survivors. They heard rumours over the following weeks of who or what raided the village but it was so secluded no one had seen a thing.
Sunil and Mirth found a new home in a small city. But torn so suddenly from his lifelong friends and struggling to work without their support, Sunil was never able to earn as much as he used to. He earned just enough to feed and house them but luxuries and gifts became a thing of the past just like the kindness of their village. There was no community or comradery in the city, but Sunil still did his best to teach his daughter the importance of kindness and the teachings of Lathandar. At 16, Mirth joined the City Watch. She thought she could work and earn money for her father while doing good for those around her. She learnt to fight and became quite accomplished but earned few promotions during her time there. She was too nice and had been caught letting people off for petty crimes, or leaving her post to help someone elsewhere.
Mirth was 21 when The Surge hit. The city was a mess of confusion and panic as many discovered powers and magic they'd never had before. The City Watch worked around the clock to maintain order until a level of normalcy returned. Mirth had always had traces of magic on account of her tiefling nature but in the months after the Surge something different happened. She heard the voice of her god, Lathandar. She was praised for her devotion and her tireless work. He told her it was time to spread her love and joy to where it would be needed most and told her what road out of town to follow. She packed her things and left that day. Resigning from the guard and saying goodbye to her father. She gave up her birth name, Vashti Deterra and gave herself a new one, a symbol of her mission and devotion to the Morninglord's quest, Mirth.
She travelled slowly, by foot for most of the journey. Stopping to give aid where she could. Lathander didn't speak to her again directly, but gave her visions of which road to take whenever she was unsure. It took two years before she arrived at her final destination. The air there was humid and the sun was bright. Large waterfalls fell from the cliff face, disappearing behind city walls and glimmering like crystal. Crystals dotted the rocky face, rippling like water. She had arrived at Lumivaara. Her new home.
||Trivia
From a distance her pupils look like crosses but they're actually five different holes (a cat-like slit in the middle and two more gaps either side)
Works closely with the adventurer guild, maybe you'll see her around
