Description I by all means believe that sketchbooks don't have to be perfect, but for some reason I like to go all out on the first page. I've always got this weird thing abou feeling like I'm completely defacing an expensive book with my random scribblings, but somehow breaking a new sketchbook in by putting something a bit more complete helps... And THEN I can move on to my usual chicken-scratch sketches. XD

I don't even care that this is full of mistakes and if this came out looking like technicolor cat vomit; I have been (re)-re-reading The Hobbit and I wanted to paint something happy and colorful, gosh darnit!

Dip pens, acrylic ink wash on Canson mixed-media paper.
The Hobbit  belings to J.R.R. Tolkien.

"But Gandalf looked at him from under long, bushy eyebrows that stuck out further than the brim of his shady hat.

'What do you mean,' he said. 'Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?'"

I like this a lot. This scene was the only saving grace in the film (which Jay and I had to stop watching) and I love this rendition. You know how to recreate thick folds in clothing, depth, and lighting. Happy and colorful is the way to go!
