    Detailed:
Lorien is a dreamer, and a wolf full of love, life, and hope. She is an idealist with an unshakable vision for a better future born of tolerance and compassion rather than the current world marred (in her opinion) by fear and hate. She can see the nuances and complications of the world, and the painful scars that have impacted all traumatized sides of the island’s conflict, yet cannot quite comprehend the extent of the trauma, and thus tends to sweep away the deep magnitude of them with the overarching sentiment that if wolves can just learn to understand each other then that is all that is needed. In this way she is perhaps beyond idealistic, and could be called unrealistic. She doesn’t have enough of a grasp on suffering to understand that things are just more complicated than she wants them to be.

And there’s a reason that she doesn’t have a good grasp on suffering. Lorien has been very fortunate in that she has not been overly hurt by the island, or any individual. She was very sheltered growing up, with a privileged youth where she wanted for nothing, and she was taught the importance of optimism and compassion to a borderline religious extent. And so the belief that these sentiments can conquer all hardships is deep in her psyche. It has worked for all her hardships so far, after all! However few she has had. As a result her mindset, however sweet and well-meaning, she can certainly come off as self-righteous, perhaps even condescending, in her firm advocacy of such simplistic solutions. She believes that she has all the answers, if only wolves would listen to her

Whatever her beliefs, at least she believes in them with zeal! Lorien is passionate, and easily overcome by emotions (She is that friend always posting inspirational quotes over sunset beach photos). She is a very romantic, and very sentimental creature. And what is more romantic than taking a stand? And so, Lorien is not unknown to take a vocal stand for what she believes is right. She is shamelessly unafraid of making her voice heard, and does not back down easily in the face of adversity! She is up there fighting the good fight! Such drama and romance! Though stubborn and confrontational may be better words for it.

What may give others pause, however, is who Lorien may choose to be stubborn and confrontational with, and in defense of whom. Lorien gravitates toward the underdog. If a group seems disadvantaged or demonized she is very quick to come to their defense whoever they are. She likes acting like a balancing force to advocate for the “other side” if she feels they need defending. It may seem strange for a wolf so passionately against conflict to regularly defend groups that may be thought of to cause it, but above all Lorien believes that tolerance and understanding of one another is the first step to peace. Because of this, she is an apologist, defending the side she sees as being demonized in an effort to remind others they are all just wolves, and evoke compassion for them, even if that side she defends holds even less of her values than the side she is defending them against. Yeah that wolf committed a crime and that will always be wrong, but they were scared/they thought they were right/look at their home life, that poor soul, just try to understand! Lorien has the ability to see the good in other wolves, even if they are bad. Even when it might not even be there. Because she is constantly looking for it. Constantly. And she will cling to even the slightest hint of humanity they show, that Wormtongue-with-a-tear-running-down-his-face moment, and use that as proof to others, or hope for herself (whether it’s actually a sign of goodness or just her hopeful interpretation), that every wolf has good within them.

Due to her optimistic outlook about others, Lorien is a very social and kind wolf. Her whole world revolves around the innate love she has for all of wolfkind. No matter who you are. She loves her pack most of all though, Skydas. She feels that it stands for everything she believes in (compassion, nonviolence, tolerance). She can also be friends with just about anyone, even if someone doesn’t like her or is mean to her she seems to have infinite patience with them, or maybe she is just unable to comprehend the possibility of anyone disliking her, thus leaving her impervious to shade thrown her way.

While Lorien means well, and probably comes off as quite benevolent, there is a certain selfishness to her behavior. She believes herself to be quite enlightened, and intelligent, but the extent of her generosity and goodness is mostly a manufactured product of her upbringing, a belief that this is what she’s supposed to be, rather than anything she chose herself from the goodness of her heart. For all her high-minded ideals she often does pick whatever is the easiest way out of a situation, or whatever will benefit her the most, or what will make her look/feel the most virtuous. She doesn’t like her worldview to be challenged, and will vigorously resist those who try to change it. Maybe this is a good thing, after all her worldview is nice enough, but due to the fact it is more of a mental construct rather than a deep-seated truth she discovered and chose for herself through experience and hardship, means that this worldview is fragile. Though no one who has ever gotten an earful of one of her sentimental “hope” tirades would likely suspect that. Least of all Lorien herself.

History:

Born and raised by loving and supportive parents who asserted that she could achieve anything she wanted, Lorien has always had a deep confidence in herself, and a very stable and solid foundation on which she has blossomed into a decisive, well adjusted, and compassionate young she-wolf. Lovely inside and out. She had always been surrounded by friends, including her closest friend Odette who she grew up with. From a young age Lorien found herself deeply enamored with wolfkind as a whole, and all the intricate quirks and mindsets that made each wolf beautiful. She loved tracing the actions of others back to their experiences, what made them who they are. That was the most interesting to her.

Lorien was young when Malaysia began her information campaign, speaking of magical forces soon to be a big part of the island. Lorien was genuinely curious. She wasn’t sure about the whole god thing, but hey it was interesting! And even more interesting were the wolves who believed it. And who knows perhaps it was right. They believed in it just as strong as the wolves who didn’t believe it after all. And so Lorien listened and learned with a deep interest. However it all became a bit too real for her when Malaysia turned her fangs on the humans that arrived at the beach. Lorien had to admit that Malaysia HAD seemed to have predicted that occurrence, and it WAS customary by her beliefs to eat humans. But Lorien still didn't like it, being as nonviolent as she was, so of course she stayed with the Tundes. But still she loved the Kol, even if she did not agree with them, and became a Peacekeeper as soon as she could.

Among the Tundes she was a huge supporter of Osirus and had a strong belief in a peaceful resolution to the split. As the island took its toll in the wolves around her she was lucky enough to evade any personal impact. As wolves grew frightened and heartbroken around her she remained strong, and resolute in her belief that they are all still one family. Those who disagreed just needed to look past their emotions to see it. Radicalization was not the answer. And she would passionately condemn any wolf who thought otherwise.

Lorien was dismayed when the Tundes split into three packs. She of course stayed with Skydas, with her friend Odette, and Lennart who believed in a peaceful resolution just like she did.
