Basic summary for them is that the planet found its ability to understand and communicate diplomatically with Highlionds was rather lacking. So it had Alphonse find an orphaned cub and raise them to be a more formal link. Now their job is to give Blessings to those worthy as well as carry out judgement. They carry an orb made of one of the planet's crystals as an instrument to channel R'aviv.
