Description
A quick doodle of good ol' Krampus. He's not as hairy as the other versions of him, but I don't care. This is my interpretation of him, and there's not a thing you can do to convince me otherwise. Anyway, I never heard of this guy until last year. That was when I decided to add him in the world of QFA (he won't appear in the comic; he might be mentioned, but nothing else). He is still the same Krampus from Germanic folklore, but he is also another version of Santa Claus for the people of the Underworld. How?
Every December, the Underworlders would get themselves a silver table with arciac-looking carvings of Krampus. The tables, called Krampus tables, were meant to display things that the people wanted to trade for something they requested. For example, if a person offered a book in return for a new pair of boots, then they would put that book on the table and have it exchanged for the boots. Krampus enters every house in the Underworld through the chimney and trades out whatever he sees on the tables. Sometimes the people would leave out high-quality foods for Krampus like bread, cheese, meat, or occasionally, pastries. These offerings are the very reason that Krampus fasts before he begins his journey. Taking things off the special tables in exchange for something in his basket isn't the only thing he does; he leaves behind a small, wooden box next to the chimney. Inside the box is a written riddle. Anyone who gets the answer will be granted good luck an success throughout the entire year (nothing happens if they don't get it right). Krampus does not have a sleigh with eight reindeer pulling; he is a very agile creature that can reach one house after another in seconds.
In the regular world, he kidnaps any child who has misbehaved and takes them to hell or the Underworld, depending on how bad they've been. If they did something like bully another child or disrespect their family, they're taken to the Underworld, but if their behavior is worse than that, then they're taken to hell. Many years ago, he used to take all the naughty children to hell and keep them as slaves, prisoners, or food supply. This all changed when the gods banished him in hell for twelve when he refused to stop. While serving his time, Krampus would often be visited by Hades, god of the Underworld (the Underworld is located between earth and hell, by the way). He offered Krampus the task of exchanging gifts throughout the Underworld in exchange for permanent safety from the gods' wrath. When Krampus inquired about this, Hades told him that for the past thousand years his subjects were so miserable throughout the whole month of December. At the same time, he envied the rest of the world (excluding hell) of how jolly they were at this time of year. He wanted to find a way to make his people happy, and having Krampus do this for him would be a good way to start.
And that is how Krampus is like Santa in the Undwerworld and like himself in the regular world. Just a quick reminder, this is how he is in the world of QFA, not in real life. If you're confused about the Underworld, let me explain some things about it. First off, it's not just a cave with the souls of the dead roaming about. It's a massive cave with entire cities and regions (and the souls of the dead roaming about). Because of the sheer size of the Underworld, there are large stone growths strewn about that hold the regular world up to keep it from crushing everything. As for how one goes there after death, they just need to have a balanced amount of sin and virtue on their soul. In other words, it's a neutral afterlife. Where heaven provides a place for the virtuous to stay after death and hell doing the same for sinners, so does the Underworld with anyone who is in between.
That's all I have to say about that. I do not own Krampus (obviously) nor do I claim to have any form of originality behind his origin in QFA. Also, Merry Christmas everyone!
