Ha well - I wish ours make that a rule.. it's a good rule..
this was copied from a picture because the point was that it was supposed to be of a well-known album cover that wouldsignify somehting other than simply the band itself. the poem was to do with historic and culteral events through the second half of the 20th century, so we thought the development of rock music was an apt thing to include there, if just for a pop culture angle.

That's pretty cool! I've been debating that rule with my friends like what constitutes it as copying even though I know but I love debating...

It's cool! And who says copying a picture isn't real art??? I'm sure it's what most people do when drawing musicians. I know I do......it would be impossible without a reference picture....

weile In reply to livneeson [2006-01-20 04:27:54 +0000 UTC]
sure, of course you have to use references when you're drawing bands. but then you have to consider whether drawing bands is art in the first place. art in practice, maybe, because you're holding a pen and drawing with it, but there's nothing mental going on between you and the piece. band art is, you know, fun stuff. some people do take images and rearrage or combine them so that they're coming up with an original composition, but in the end it is just fan art. doesn't stop me from doing it now and then - it can be fun :] Though most of the time I'd rather listen to the Beatles than draw pictures of them, because I've got other stuff to draw.

fan art then is the only art I really like doing. like, when I had to do art in school- i hated every piece i did, even if people thought it was really good. im going to go ahead and call it art, because I see many people on the internet with their own site for their ART, which may be portraits of musicians they've done....and are even selling!

weile In reply to livneeson [2006-01-20 10:32:37 +0000 UTC]
the fact that it sells doesn't make it art. but - that's just according to my definition, and- well, to each his own.

livneeson In reply to weile [2006-01-20 11:50:06 +0000 UTC]
yes...i agree with the last bit. i just think no one really has the right to say what is and what is not art. it's different in everyones eyes, and everyone will have different taste. i mean, some call a dot on canvas art. so there you go. i hated art at school- all this "have to do it this way" how is that expressing myself? it's doing what the teacher says, to pass.
and this may sound crazy, but here's a little theory- if you believe in god, which I do, think about us humans, the earth, animals. we were all created by god....so really, when you draw say, your pet, or mother etc.....you are drawing something not created by you...but do you still call it art?? yes

It's so nifty! My inking is teh suck compared to this. (Sure, my pencils are pretty cool, but....) Wow. I haven't seen such awesome straight ink in...ever, gotta say. George looks especially neat. All swishy. And Ringo does SO look like Ringo. Not perfect, maybe, but my pictures of Ringo are kinda off too. (You think he'd be easier!) I like the way you strayed for typical crosshatching and stippling and all that.
P.S., Rubber Soul=One of my favorites.

I didn't enter the Beatlefest art contest last year but I think that if I can throw something together this summer I will. haha, so stuuuupid but I like it. ever been to beatlefest? nobody other than my mom will go with me but the concert parts are actually really good! billy preston was there last year!

I'll go with you! But I don't have money for plane tickets. Ahh! I've always wanted to go. It sounds like so much fun, even though I'm not hugely obsessed like a lot of people there would be.

I think they have beatlefests in different locations at different times of the year.. there's probably one out east too. ohhh but you live in... I forgot about that. ohh, man! well, if you're ever around, hah, let me know.
(most the people at the fest are much more obsessive than I am.. people dress up or create bands in the middle of the hallway.. and there are SO many overweight middle-aged couples wearing shirts with Beatle heads on them dragging little kids they've also stuffed into Beatle clothing..)

balllllpoint. you took away the ballpoint look in the scan, but you should get away from that evil red oil-based ink and get into some slick and smooth water based black. bud. Even though they may not last as long.

haaa. it wasn't really a ballpoint pen. it was one of those smooth ink ones, I found it in the art room. ...'ballpoint' sounded better with beatles for the title.
