WILLIAM!? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT!? WHY ARE YOU SO HARD TO DRAW!? STOP BEING DIFFICULT ALREADY! You're such a bother.This was supposed to be a full-body picture but I got so sick of it that I made a bust out of it instead. I like the result but it was annoying as hell because I couldn't quite make it look the way I wanted. He's not supposed to look pissed off, just you know, hungry, and I think I somewhat pulled it off...

You don't have to, but I love the way you shaded this. Could you give me any hints or tips in shading?

Thank you, I'm glad you like it! I picked a base color and just filled the spaces, then I picked a brighter shade for highlighting and a darker for shading. For getting that texture on the hood I abused the hell out of all kinds of random brushes with low opacity, about 10-40 % (make sure they're not just plain round though). Avoid using black, that makes the lineart disappear. Also, try vary the colors a little when you highlight!
Something else that is very inportant is to pick a direction of light. William in this picture is backlit from slightly above.

I'm glad you like it! I put quite a lot of work into the coloring. I abused the shit out of all kinds of brushes but I suppose it worked out in the end.
