Description
I've been recommended to watch Evangelion for many years now and never seemed to get to it until very recently. I then soon found myself rather inspired to create some fan art
I also recently watched a few minutes of a video from Jason Chan (which I got from a friend) on a 6 hour sketch he did in Painter. This made me take on a new quicker approach in Photoshop without line art and without so many layers. All this portrait is, is me just painting over the rough sketch I did. This makes the whole process more free from any limitations the lines may have, which makes it just easier to work with. So, this is more of a painting than anything else.
Anyway, hope you guys enjoy what I've done with her and how I've redesigned her

I love your take on her plug suit, seems more practical and far more refined. I love it!

like the artistic licence taken, adding red accents as opposed to gold ones makes the suit pop. Rei however would have an issue as she doesn't like red, but that's beside the point

Rei never looked so good as on this one. Natural, mysterious, charming... You rendered the creator Yoshiyuki Sadamoto a wonderful hommage in my view.

Although canon Rei dislikes the color red, I LOVE this portrait. The red highlights look like racing stripes- appropriate for a giant robot pilot.

I like the touch of the lipstick. I always thought Rei would look good with blood red lipstuck which would go perfect with her blood red eyes.

Did you watch the movies or the original series? The new movies are awesome and technically beautiful, but given the time restraints on the movies it lacks a lot of the depth of the original series.
