Tolkien created three class romantic couples in the "Lord of the Rings." The classic pretty people power couple of a great knight and his fair lady (i.e. Aragorn and Arwen). The medieval chaste romance of Galadriel and Gimli, from the Courtly Love tradition and devotion to the Virgin Mary. Finally, the much more realistic couple of Sam and Rosie Cotton, which I believe was inspired by Tolkien's own marriage.
