This is awesome. I especially like the look on Gilbert's face as he's giving Lutz the toy plane.

I can seriously not tell you how much I love this piece. Everything from the sepia photograph like coloring to the not-so-obvious-but-still-there affection and pride in Gilbert's face. You got everything so wonderfully accurate on that plane the airplane geek in me is spluttering. You even included the correct armament. Perfect. The hint of a smile on Ludwig’s face in the second picture is perfect for the period, because they seem to have rarely smiled then, but I can see him as being so proud that he couldn't help but let a little bit slip through into his expression.
You got this so perfect, emotionally, technically and historically. I am just... wow. Amazing work.

Oh my goodness! Prussia there... I never thought I would say it but he looks like a SAINTLY, father figure there...
I love the contrasting meaning of the photos. It makes you really feel the progress of time where the nations live and the changes that happen to them. Kinda like a bitter-sweet memory of rising and falling empires.
Gilbert :hearts: his lil' bro

yep they do - I like the German brothers most of all siblings in Hetalia. They just fit so well together - as brothers and as possible lovers as well :3

Probable because they don't know anything about it.
I bet no-one knows that Belgian civilians were deported to Germany to live in concentration camp-like Prisoner of War camps because they were supposed to be Franc-Tireurs. (The standard German lie to burn Belgian houses and towns)
I bet no-one knows that the Russians deported many Jews, Poles and Germans during their retreat.
I Bet no-one knows that Belgium was supposed to disappear after that war.
I think it is because they think WWI was a war where almost nothing special happened except large offensives that led to nothing.
Although if you start researching it appears that all the idées-fixes about WWI are either established by the French or British or are a product of lack of interest.

To an extent, I guess people are ashamed of it because they immediately think about its large scale of manslaughter in the trenches and its small victories (as you mentioned). From an American point of view, we don't hear a lot about WWI in comparison to WWII in school since the US joined very late in the war and its losses were few in comparison to the European nations. Still, WWI is such an important event, its international drama as intriguing as WWII, its sacrifices, heroics, cruelties and consequences shouldn't be forgotten. When I think about factors surrounding assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and the outbreak of war,(nationalism, militarism, industrial competition, etc.), I feel rather cynical about preventing another world conflict in the future.
Thanks for the facts, I did not know that! Sorry if I ranted XD

From a Belgian point of view, it's harder to look at it. Belgium saved the Allies in 1914, by an immense cost, then after the War, we get a few small colonies and two strips of German land.
In Versailles is decided that France Gets 52%, Britain gets 22%, Italy 10%, Belgium 8% and the rest also 8%.
In other words since Germany couldn't pay the lot he paid for the largest nations who got the most: Belgium had to pay for everything herself.
The major powers have always hated us and if we do something for them they say: "Thanks, now piss off."
Then after the war the Dutch come with a large smile and say: "We have sheltered your people, thank us. And here is the bill." 35 million guldens and Belgium was almost bankrupted already. Apart from that the Dutch were able to add 80% to their BNP during the war.
While Belgium was dragged into a war she had nothing to do with during which she lost everything she loved.
Apart from that the period 1939-1914 was the longest continuous peace Belgium had ever known, we are hoping to break this record now.
It's indeed not a period to be proud of.
But if we'd hide everything were not proud of history would be a lot shorter and easier.
As for preventing another war, it's quite unlikely that it will be prevented. Whenever oil is involved the US will send troops and start a war.
But let us hope there will be peace for many ages to come.
As for ranting I don't mind.
