THIS MAKES SENSE. Because the only living thing that remains with the Doctor no matter where he is or whomever else he's with is the TARDIS. This was one of absolute favorite DW episodes. Neil Gaiman did a brilliant job with this episode. I absolutely fell in love with this episode. The Tardis aka "Sexy" XD is definitely the Doctor's one true love.
