The P-51, next to the BF 109 and Fw 190 is my favorite WW2 bird of all time! ^^ I've got one of these tatted across my chest, and as an A&P mechanic i couldn't be more proud to be in the field of aviation! Maybe one day ill get to work on one of these gorgeous pieces of history.

Nice image! If the "Cadilac of the sky" had been introduced at the beginning of the war in both the European and Pacific theatre's it could have shortened the war! At least the air war.

I was about 100 ft away from one of these one day at a war bird show when it fired up. Motherfucker if I got the chills. Best sound in the world next to the shuttle firing up. That scared me.

Yeah,we all love this sound and chill.Sometimes at Duxford UK they fire up few merlins and griffons one by one and public is only 30 ft away, imagine that!

Frankie is a p51D, as far i know is the only fuel injected one in the country,, flys as part of the OFMC group at duxford ,and has done from the mid 90s. with mk9 spit ZDB mh434. hope this helps,

Not to be nit-picky but, while Frankie was probably a P-51D in service, she does not have a Hamilton Standard prop. He has an Aeroproducts unit which, in the strictest sense, makes her a P-51K. That is, actually, the only difference between the two models.

Wow, I've actually been up close and personal with this aircraft. I'm not sure if it's the same one, but it was stationed at RAF Woodvale in the Northwest of England after the Southport Airshow. Beautiful aircraft.
