While there name harkens to their ornate tail plumage it's also the result of the drakes being commonly seen during the Christmas season. When trees are brought into the home for the Christmas holiday, many are inhabited by these hibernating drakes. While not a threat to humans they can be a danger to household pets. Another unique aspect to their classy tail is the bioluminescent tip which sparkles like a star. This flashy appendage is used by males to put on light shows in order to attract females.
The Christmas Tree Dragon, despite it’s tooth jaw, feeds exclusively on pine nuts and small insects. It’s dexterous jaw and tongue allow for it to reach deep into pine cones to get the tiny morsel.
