Description Another face study wip, hopefully help me complete my own one better once I've finished painting it. Picking the values from the reference on this one as it's more of a technique practice, going to try and use some soft brushes on this one more aswell.

So quite a lot more work done on it since the first post, not too far off, don't want to go too far with the realism but will try to neaten it up a bit more tweak some bits and finish the ear and neck area.

I have to say, the realism here is quite astounding. Even if it's not "polished" you did an amazing job at portraying the shading values and the facial structure. It's a very striking piece! I really love the work on the eyes, too.

Cheers. Yeah making things look realistic just requires time basically, more hours you spend painting it the more real it will look. It's good for learning but I much prefer "painterly" looking things where you can see some style. After a while if you render something too much every ones paintings look pretty much the same, might as well just take a photo instead.

Oh I agree completely... It can be challenging, as an artist we often endeavor to make something as perfect and realistic as possible, but once we do that we lose our artistic identity... Trying to find the right balance of realism and style is hard but worthwhile. ^_^
