Description Acrylic on A2 paper, hyperrealism

It is very fascinating how the buildings reflected of the hood appear so 'real', accentuated by the surroundings in the shade and the direct sunlight hitting them. The car itself becomes secondary and the buildings something more prominent than the surroundings, thought at the same time many features found in the surroundings hold a quality that recognizes reality as we see it, such as the way you see through the front window or the nuances of the white matt car.
The painting becomes an exploration or interpretation of reality versus hyperreality.

Something special happens, when the photograph is transmitted to the painting, that somehow manages to help the above mentioned qualities appear more clearly. A regular photograph holds a certain visual dimension reserved for photos.

Nice work.

I like this one very much, it has the best of both worlds. Nice to see you taking original direction in your photorealism, something sorely lacking in the genre.

Appealing approach with the softened look on paper... very nice, well done!

quite astonishing, as always. I like the way the cars are dark and desaturated, as if standing in a shadow, and only the reflection is bright and sunny..
just curious, do you take your own photoes for these paintings? and also, how do you manage to achieve such smooth textures?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vijujako In reply to Blue-Bell-Oggie [2007-09-27 15:15:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
Yes I take photos that I use as references, but I don't 'copy' them, I often make my own contrasts and pick out which details to focus on more than others... Not sure what you mean about the textures..?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Blue-Bell-Oggie In reply to vijujako [2007-09-27 15:18:12 +0000 UTC]

I ment the paint surface, it looks so smooth, no brushstrokes visible..
I never said you "copied" them. i truly admire what you do!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

vijujako In reply to Blue-Bell-Oggie [2007-09-27 15:40:54 +0000 UTC]

I didn't think you did, I was just saying
anyway, I think that the brush strokes are quite visible here, at least compared to Parking, but I always paint many layers on top of eachother, not only to hide the strokes and really fill everything with color, but also because I never get the right tone of color instantly, so I have to repaint until it's right...
