He's just like Lennie Small from "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck. He's big, he's a bit like a child, (Lennie loves pettin' small, soft things, like puppies), and he done some bad things, but he couldn't help it neither. Unfortunately, he also dies, but, like Coffey, in a process that could be called euthanization, or mercy killin'.

Boy, ain't that the truth. People hatin' each other, and ending up killing each other or being killed, not bcuz of hate, but with or bcuz of love. Life is a sick mess, and I mean SICK! That's why he wanted the execution to be done, not stopped or anything. He was sick of life. Poor guy.

My dad told me that even though John didn't commit the murder, he's still on death row.
