Now there'sΒ an ideaΒ worth a fanfiction or two...
You know, this one fanfiction described the three triangles of the Delta Rune representing three specific monsters of authority: the Judge, the Jury, and the Executioner, born withΒ special powers that would set them apart from others.Β Here's my take on it:
- The triangle on the left representsΒ the Judge, a monster capable of weighing the facts in both traditional and magical ways with precise attention to detail.
- The triangle on the right represents the Jury, a monster who can see what others cannot and represents common monsterfolk as accurately as possible.
- The upside-down triangle in the middle represents the Executioner, one of the few monsters who is Determined enough to be completely fine with killing.
My personal opinion is that Sans the Skeleton is the Judge, for reasons obvious to those who have completed Undertale's Neutral Route at least. Undyne would definitely be the Executioner, again obvious to hardcore Undertale players. As for the Jury? This one has me stumped. I mean, we're looking forΒ a monster who knows most of the Underground's secrets and truths, and someone like this is hard to find. Maybe Asgore would work, since he IS the king, after all. Toriel, maybe, since at least she has a better since of what to do about breaking the Barrier than Asgore anyway. But I don't really know...anyone got some opinions of their own?

That's an interesting idea.
And I wholeheartedly agree that Sans would be the Judge. Who else?
But with the executioner and jury, I'm not totally sure.
Well, playing off Sans being the Judge, to find the executioner, one must find an offense due for execution to the Judge. That would be Genocide. So, who does genocide? Frisk.Β
Now, the "Undyne as the Executioner" thing, I like it. But I don't think Undyne is an executioner. Undyne is a hero, and a truly impressive one. One who, if not for Frisk's power to LOAD, would have undoubtedly saved the world, and all humankind. However, that's just the thing; she can't kill Frisk. Besides, the executioner only comes into play once the Judge has made his judgement. So...? Who's after Sans in the Genocide route? Flowey and Asgore. However, I don't believe either of them would be executioner. The only option left? Chara.
If Chara isn't executioner, then they should be. Monster or not, their way of execution is utterly successful, where no other being could do so. Chara punished- or executed, if you will- Frisk in a way that no other could- by cutting the player off. After that, they even managed to keep the punishment- the only way to punish a being who can RESET time? Ruin their happy ending. Which Chara did.
Now, the Jury. If the jury sees what others cannot, and represents common monsterfolk... I'd say Papyrus, in the situation that there is only one (though a jury is made up of more than one). Papyrus seems to see the good in everything. And does he represent common monsterfolk? Well, he's just trying to work hard, do his best, and elevate his status. Sounds pretty commonfolk-ey, to me.
Though, in the case of Undertale, I'd think that the Jury is all the monsters. Once the jury is gone, then Sans, the Judge, makes his judgement. Finally, once the Judge is gone and the last chance at redemption falls, then and only then does the executioner strike.Β
"EVERYONE CAN BE A GREAT PERSON, IF THEY JUST TRY!"
"that expression... you really are a freak, aren't you?"
" Y o u m a d e y o u r c h o i c e l o n g a g o . "

Yeah, I agree with you on Chara now.
I always saw either Frisk or the Player as the criminal, the one who must choose their own path and may very well choose wrong. And in the case of Genocide, when the Jury makes his or her observations, that is the point where the crime is revealed, and the criminal must choose whether or not to repent. That's why I thought Toriel at first -- because the Genocide route doesn't actually start until *SPOILER ALERT* you've killed 20 monsters in the Ruins, and she's the one who realizes your danger first, even before Sans. Papyrus would work too, though, by your arguments.
And then here comes Chara after you kill Flowey, cutting the Player off from the game.

Toriel could work, but she doesn't seem too much of a normal commonfolk person as most. She used to be Queen, for one, and she lives alone with only a stranger through the door and frogs to talk to. But yeah, I could see how she might work.Β

You know what's interesting? The three best candidates we've decided on are all undead. Sans and Papyrus are skeletons, and Chara's basically a ghost. I just thought that was an interesting coincidence.

Sorry. I guess I should have said "reference..."
Yeah, I tend to confuse my terms a bit. Just one of the downsides of being me, but hey! When you've got a roof over your head, working air-conditioning, enough to eat, fun siblings, and an amazing girlfriend, what's a little word confusion between a couple of people on (hopefully) friendly terms?
Excuse me, was I rambling? I also tend to do that.
