This is just fantastic... also looking at the map the sight of that hoard is actually terrifying me, hehe.

Thanks! They're much more persistent and dangerous in the actual game Horde can easily exceed 2000 zombies

Yeah I know. I remember when they were first added, the sounds that the hoards would make would draw in more hoards which made more sounds. Absolute terror with them around.

CDDA is so hardcore... I almost always die within 20 turns... one time I lived like 150 turns... by hiding and never coming out of the building I started in.

This is brilliant, by the way, I would totally play a game that looked like this!

vertibirdo In reply to DBrentOGara [2016-10-20 05:37:26 +0000 UTC]

20 turns and even 150 turns sound kinda extreme... The longest i've played was like 2 or 3 ingame years (year set to be almost realistic- 364 days). And i could've played more if new experimental version didn't ruin my savefile.

Yeah... 150 turns got me... oh, forty-five minutes into the first in-game afternoon?

Yeah... I didn't ever get around to making one of those... or even being able to make one of those!

Ah, I have made one of those!

They work pretty well for starters. And you can crack doors and crates with them. Also bash some skulls in, as long as it's simple zombies and there are only 1-2 of them at a time.

DBrentOGara In reply to vertibirdo [2016-10-21 09:31:31 +0000 UTC]

I will try that next time! Thanks

The main idea- while you are weak, unskilled and badly equipped, plan your escape ahead and try to keep out of zombie sight. Night is the best time to raid early on. Scout during day and mark places where dangerous zombies are (they will not wander too far unless they get agitated by something, which is unlikely). Zombies see almost as bad as you during night.
I used to find some wrecked car on the outskirts, which would have one of two following- either working engine, either fuel leakage. Then i started engine or lighted up fuel. Noise from working engine or from the burning car would attract a lot of zombies.

Cool! I must be doing it wrong, 'cause I seldom live long enough to find anything good.

It depends what are you looking for. For military grade stuff like army clothes, kevlar armor and such, best bet would me military surplus stores. They also usually have water and MRE. For guns, gun store obviously, but anything except for shotgun and automatic weapons point blank is useless for newb survivors. For awesome melee weapons you can raid pawn shops (they often have stuff like antique swords and such), museums and mansions. Electronic stores have a lot of batteries and large stores can even have some low-grade CBMs. As for everything else...  A lot of stuff you can make yourself, like survivor armor and tools. And then it's just a matter of time before you find something really cool like rivtech weapons and armor.  A lot of people also like "naturalistic" way of playing a game Leading nomadic life in the wilderness. Not quite my liking, mostly because tents are often torn apart by wild animals

DBrentOGara In reply to vertibirdo [2016-10-22 22:48:24 +0000 UTC]

Great advice, I will look for these stores and items... if I live long enough to find any of them!

Just look at the map. Unless something went wrong or you spawned in the middle of nothing, there should be a town nearby.

DBrentOGara In reply to vertibirdo [2016-10-24 03:18:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes! There is always a town or farm or military bunker nearby... but it's crawling with unkillable zombies that eat me immediately!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vertibirdo In reply to DBrentOGara [2016-10-24 05:42:31 +0000 UTC]

Farm should be pretty easy to clear out... Military bunker on the other hand- no. Bio-operator zombies, grenadiers, zombie soldiers and military turrets can easily kill even a seasoned survivor.

DBrentOGara In reply to vertibirdo [2016-10-24 10:32:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the longest I ever lived was on a farm! I even drove a tractor... and promptly crashed into a tree.

vertibirdo In reply to DBrentOGara [2016-10-24 11:31:46 +0000 UTC]

Farm is pretty neat, also it often has a well. Ranch is also quite cool. But in the way like things are now, mobile base FTW. It makes no sense settling in one place

This really reminds me of Fallout

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vertibirdo In reply to Lankore [2016-10-17 17:15:09 +0000 UTC]

How come? Fallout didn't have any zombies in it to begin with...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lankore In reply to vertibirdo [2016-10-17 17:35:56 +0000 UTC]

The feral ghouls are basically Fallouts equivalent of zombies and in Fallout 3 especially they are everywhere.

Idk it just reminded me of being a low level character fighting off my first hoard of ten + feral ghouls

vertibirdo In reply to Lankore [2016-10-17 17:48:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh, those... Never actually got into Fallouts other than 1 and 2, so i had no idea until i looked it up now.
