Description
So this was meant to be a relatively quick picture, like the one of Agnes, but I got a bit detail happy and ended up spending a lot longer on it than I originally intended.That being said, I'm pretty happy with this!
This is Hugo Gaspard, a french ex-soldier. His hobbies are manly brooding, sideburn maintenance and general disregard for zombie wellbeing.
I actually came up with his character based on his coat, it's modelled on a hunting jacket in Taschen Fashion that I fell in love with and knew I had to design a character who would wear it.
I've got three main characters, so I'm going to try and do a picture like this for each one, that way I have them fixed in my head visual-wise.
Also, I forgot to add, the texture used in the BG is by who has a ton of amazing textures and stuff. Check them out!!

17th and 18th century pistols are my favourite type of weapons, I find the level of detail, craftsmanship and decoration on them absolutely fascinating. I do find them difficult to draw though, I'm forever having to check back to references!

Lol, it was a hunting jacket, and in my head, anyone who regularly goes hunting also has badass sideburns. The only notable exception being the Winchester brothers.

Is it acceptable that I know exactly which jacket you're talking about? I also have a copy of that book - it is fantastic. I feel his sideburns should grow exponentially with the rate of his character development.

Lol, that is entirely acceptable! It is the most amazing book, probably one of my favourites along with Historical Costume In Detail.
I changed the colour because I wasn't feeling the ochre yellow, and it's supposed to be more of an oiled/waxed leather (easier for wiping gore and stray bits of zombie off) instead of suede, which is a bitch to keep clean. He's a man of practicality!
And I can see him getting cranky when he doesn't get chance to take care of his sideburns. Overgrown facial hair is an 18th century man's worst nightmare! Lol.
