Description The shifting unpredictable lights of a far away pole reveals, only for a moment, a phantom glimpse of a winged wolf, slightly windswept in the flat, barren landscape. The ever moving lights will change again, and, like ethereal brevity of the northern lights, this creature will disappear in a veil of darkness played upon light.

This was intended to be yet another ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) but my hand slipped as I was cuttig the card to its 3.5 by 2.5 inch dimensions and I ended up with less that 2.5 inches on one side. I may still try to sell it as a damaged ACEO since, aside from its trapezoidal shape, this is a perfect card. Oh, yeah, and the blort of marker outside the lines on the wing there. Ergh. I challenged myself to color a piece only with marker, so I did! The more I learn about markers the more comfortable I feel with them. Maybe I will venture into watercolors next. I used silver paint pen and green glitter pen for some highlights.

I really like it. The wings are quite nice and it makes me jealous since I can barely draw wings myself.

Your hand slipped? *winces* Hopefully you're okay after that, but man... I hate it when things like that happen.

I'm fine, thanks for you concern! I didn't get in the way of the blade so only the art suffered.

I wish I could do so hawt a job with markers, but I totally suck with them...maybe I'll go practice more.

It's all practice. All my first marker pieces were such messes until someone told me the importance of using subtle colors and layers.

Aw, that is gorgeous! When I was in middle school, I made up the easy combination of a wolf and eagle and called it a "Weagle". You have a vey beautiful version of one if I may call it such! Graceful, beautiful and in a way realistic! Lovely.

What marker brand did you use?

F'real?!

Huh! I don't think I've ever seen Prismas used in so muted and soft a fashion; I could have sworn you used Copics or Trias!

Well, I mostly used Cool Grey 10 to 50%, I think Jasmine? Cream? for the background along with some other colors at the bottom. I also used Cloud Blue, greyed lavender, some sort of brighter blue in teh shadows, maybe deco blue, some warm greys and...uhhh...I forget all I used! Mostly greys, so the muted colors blended into eachother really well and when I used the brighter colors, the the softer colors ate them up!. The greens show up well cause I used them straight on the white paper.

Wow, I wish I had the money for all those nice subtle hues. The prismamarkers I buy are mostly BOLD BRIGHT OBNOXIOUS colours!

Yeah they come in such garish colors in those packs! However, I think you can buy the grayscale sets as well. AND you can buy them individually so that helps as well.

avelacuna In reply to vantid [2006-08-04 05:13:01 +0000 UTC]

I've been on the lookout for the greyscale sets (RIDICULOUS! French, cool, and warm are their own boxes!) and I do tend to buy my markers individually.
But unfortunately, being in the "business" of anthro art means that I have to buy loads of brassy marker colours for commissions... and that leaves no fundage for nuance-shades.

(And also I don't have your colouring skills, which means that I can't blend to get the PERFECT hue without the appropriate marker! D

Ohhh perfect hue, wish I could get that! All the marker things I do are just...umm...spontaneous. I never know what color I am going to end up with in the end. I get a lot of mud. this was going to be a black wolf but i chickened out. It's a lot of guess work, and a liiiittle bit of color thoery that anyone can learn out of the book or the internet. Most of my marker stuff is a disaster, I don't show them! XD
