Ooh, this brings back bad memories. I gave a girl I had a crush on a note. She gave it back to me in front of everyone in class and told me to bug (but politely, though). If there had been an ACME Portable Hole available, I would've used it.

well, you know what about 80% of my commissions entail, so seeing 'you' inserted into a comic is very cool... and has left me horribly jealous I don't have the skill st to do the same... using yourself as the 'dry' sidekick to GoGo's 'loud' persona, is well done.

she is like all mid-late adolescents - displaying blatant refusal to buckle to the man, but wave something vaguely edible and you have her full attention.

this is a side to gogo i don't think we've seen before - it really rounds her out, even if it does mean crushing poor hector's confidence in the process.

"I HAVE TO GO, LEAVE ME ALONE!"
Hahaha, even though he's got a crush on her, he still gets shit-scared and thinks she will behead him.

I think I'll crit all the comics in here. I'm all about efficiency, y'see.

Like-like: I happened to catch myself raising an eyebrow or two when I noticed how cool Andy was with Hector's crush on Gogo. However it all makes sense when you read the following comic. Of course Andy doesn't want Hector to think that he, himself might possibly have a slight crush on Gogo. That's what the reader, or at least I, assume. It's always a risk to confuse the reader like that, but the "aha"-feeling you get when you read on is well worth it.

Emotional powaz: Sucker punch indeed. The build-up is great and so is Andy's response to Gogo's devilish game. However I have some problems with the no-eyes. I know you use the no-nose a lot because it's not as important of a device to depict a character's feelings. But the lack of eyes kinda bugs me a little; I instinctively get suspicious of him. I know the eyebrows are sufficient in depicting the emotional reaction, but it still feels like he talks with his eyes closed. Okay, Immah take this to the lower levels of perception:

In panel two it works, because he's kinda looking down. Panel four also passes by without any significant reactions. Panel five is where I get a little frustrated, because he could be looking pretty much in any direction, or none at all. It becomes kinda frustrating when I have to calculate his eyes myself (this is also done instinctively, so it's only upon reflection that I notice how I actually react to the panels). Panel six is where I more or less crave to have some kind of eyes depicted. It only has to be two little dots like in panel one, that would be sufficient. Why? Because now he's angry. I know the anger is directed towards Gogo, but that's only apparent when you read the text. The brain reads faces a lot faster than it does written text so again, I have to calculate his eyes.

dis-missive: Personal cameos are always fun and it would actually be kinda interesting if you yourself had even the smallest part in the Bomango storyline. I don't have any grudges in this comic, I just flow right through it. The conversation in panel one is hilarious as well as Hector's fleeing words.

Right. So... that would probably be all from me. Which kinda turned out to be quite a lot, but what the hell, it's fun to analyze stuff that you're interest in. I always shout out a little "whieeee!" in my head whenever I see several updates in comic format from you.

Now I need to get back to work. Great job on the comics. Over 'n out.

VanHeist In reply to Rither [2008-05-20 14:56:40 +0000 UTC]

holy sweet buckets...

yes, "Like-Like" pretty much required a followup since on its own it wasn't very definitive.

your observations on EP's eye-thing are well-made, as i do tend to get carried away with it from time to time and many people seem to find it distracting, or at the very least curious. I'll take these things into account.

i used to be in a LOT of my comics until i realized how effin' boring i am and how much more fun it is to let other chars take the wheel (like Gogo, for example) so pretty much any role i play is gonna be fairly mute, like here. At least if it's me, there's no need to explain why Gogo knows who i am ^^

hopefully there'll be more stuff to "whieeee!" over soon, but i'm squeezing these in between "real" work and so who knows

thanks once again for the great critiques!

Hrhr, give me a full status report!

Would of been funny to hear someone from the back yelling, "Who do you think is running this ship!!"

Nice strip! Good color work. I like the mood set in this little diner. I have to ask, how'd you color the metal parts of the stools?

VanHeist In reply to GlennSueznin [2008-05-20 14:51:49 +0000 UTC]

the metal parts are just a quick dash of the gradient tool nothin fancy there, hehe

it'd be rough to hire someone who doesn't believe in work and demands free food at every turn while emptying the grease traps down their gullet when bored. i imagine the manager was bullied somewhat ^^
