Description EDIT: First of all, I should have mentioned this tutorial is for users that have some experience with PS

Second, the first outline shouldn't be blurred. Once you have finished your other outlines, go back and unhide that layer. I should have mentioned that

Because I have had so many questions about how I do my colour effect, I have made a tutorial about it. It is a big file though, the original was even bigger

This is my first tutorial, so any tips would be great!

Please, if you have any questions, ask me! I am happy to answer By the way, I use PS CS5, this tut should also apply to some earlier versions. However, I don't know if it will work with SAI or GIMP.

Is there any other tutorials people would like to see?

The work I used as an example was :

I tried this tutorial and it is good - but a couple of observations: You should always write a tutorial based on the fact that the reader knows little about where to find and how to use tools and effects in Photoshop - that will make it easier for all user levels. When suggesting colours for layer fills, etc. you should include the hex value.
Going through the tutorial I wasn't sure what adjustments to make in the Variations - perhaps a few guidelines of what you actually did to get your blue effect?
The final step: are we using the previously hidden layer for the second outline and should it also be blurred?

A really good first tutorial - well done

Thank you so much for that comment! It helped me quite a lot!!

1. Variations.

I didn't state exactly what I did because it would vary depending on the image you use and the amount of shadow and light. And what I did, may not work with other images, so thats why I left it up to the artist.

2. outline.

No the first outline shouldn't be blurred. Once you have finished your other outlines, go back and unhide that layer. I should have mentioned that Thanks for that question, I can include it in the arists comments now

That little critique was just wonderful, it helped me quite a lot So thank you! I will make sure I take your advice if I make another tutorial.

Pleased to help - I understand what you are saying about the variations, but by not saying any of what you did the user has to keep switching from their image to the tut to see if they're getting close. Personally I have never used the variations adjustment before - I always use selective color or photo filter.

You may be interested to take a look here [link] at one of my smaller tuts - I appreciate it is very different because I am not limited by space or file size, but the idea is the same - giving hex values and addressing the audience as if they don't know too much about Photoshop.

Perhaps if you get this one altered a little we could collaborate on featuring it as a tutorial on my site - you will of course get all the credit - and I will include a short bio (written by you) at the end of the article - take a look here [link] at an article I wrote for another site and note the bio at the end

Let me know what you think
