Description                                    The Unicorns of Time
Unicorns were losing their colors and their powers. Every unicorn had a different color. No two were the same. Storm Rider was a magnificent blue and gray.  Her mate Ski was the leader of elements.
Ski was on a journey. Storm was worried about him, but not only him. She was worried about the human prince. Lately he had been locking himself in his room. He was becoming more and more antisocial as time went on. This was very unusual for the prince.
Not only was Storm worried but the king and queen were as well. Starfeild, daughter of Storm and Ski was perhaps the one who was worrying the most. For she was the human prince's unicorn. They had a very special bond that can only happen when a baby unicorn and human child are born at the same time. The bond is so strong that they are drawn to each other and at a very early age they find one another.
Prince William would only come out at night. He would give Starfeild a carrot or two and then he was off to the river. He would not come back until dawn. Sometimes there would be more than the prince’s voice. But Starfeild knew not to question the voices, for they might be the voice of the river and the land. One night after weeks of being out by the  river, the prince came back with cuts and bruises all over his body. And he fell at Starfeild’s feet and slept. Starfeild let him sleep. In the morning when the stable boy came to clean out the unicorns stall and give her fresh food and water he was amazed to see the prince at her feet. She quietly shooed the boy. And he ran off to tell the King and Queen where the prince was.
When the King and Queen came down to see their son, Starfeild told them he would be just fine. For he had been visited by the elements. And this was a very special time. It only happened once every millennia.
The Palace guard picked up the prince and brought him to his room. The prince slept for two days. When he awoke, his mother the Queen was planning his elements Ball. He did not understand. But he did not want to ask his mother. So he instead he went toStarfeild. He went to her to see what she had to say.
When he got to the stable it was not hard to find Starfeild. She was sniffing for treat in the cupboard. He gave her a treat, she nuzzled his hair. He then got his saddle ready to take Starfeild for a ride. While they were on their run the young prince, William asked Starfeild if she knew what the elements ball was for. As she explained he slowly remembered the night by the river. He was pulled into the river and was spoken to. He was told he was the chosen one and that Starfeild would help him get through the task that lay before him. For she was one of the chosen ones too.

When they got back to the stable the prince went to get fitted for his new outfit needed for the elements ball. He decided this time he would wear something to match Starfeild’s coat. As the design was in the process the prince went to have a talk with his mother, the Queen. She explained what the elements ball was about. And why it was happening to William.
Every millennia  there is a chosen one. And that chosen one has to prepare for times of great danger. For the chosen on has to go the land of the Dragons and make peace with them once again. If this does not happen the kingdom will fall, the dragons will take over and make the world a great misery of a place to live. This journey takes a very long time. It must be prepared for properly or the kingdom will be lost.
                                                         * * * * *
It was time for the elements ball. This was also the time where William would find someone to rule with him in the time of the Dragon. This was the time to find a bride, and the time to welcome the spirits in to the palace. William was wondering around and dancing with all the eligible women. When he was dancing with yet another princess who wanted to marry him, he noticed a very beautiful figure sitting in the corner. As soon as the dance was over he thanked the young lady and headed to the corner where he saw her. But before he could get there he was stopped by his father the King. His father began to lecture him on how he was acting and how he should be more serious. He took his eye off the corner for one second and she was gone. After the talk with his father he thanked him “Dad, I appreciate your concern and thank you. But I can handle this.”

When his father finally let him go it was to late the girl in the corner was gone. While he sulked he made his way out side to the rose garden. As he walked through them he saw the tail end of a white dress. This small flash surprised him off he went to chase it.  He came to a clearing with a bench in the middle. And to his surprise it was the fair maiden from the corner inside. She was sitting watching the water fall over the fountain. He walked up to her and along the way picked a rose. He walked up beside her.
“Hello.” He said
She stands up and bows
“Hello, young prince.”
“What is your name?”
“Lillian, your Highness. But you may call me Lilly”
“That is such a beautiful name.”
“Thank you.”
She blushes
“Would you like to dance my lady?”
“I would be honored.”
As they danced he suddenly wanted to learn more about her.
‘Where are you from? I don’t believe I have ever seen you before.”
“I am from the land of Azmanz. My father was originally given the invitation and was unable to make it. I however got to go in his place. He is here on business and I was allowed to come along this time. Shortly after we arrived we received the invitation.”
“I am very glad you came in your father’s place.”
“Oh thank you, your highness.”
She blushes once again.
“Please call me William.”
“Yes, William.”
Just at that moment Lilly care taker walked into the clearing.
“Young miss, it is time we returned.”
“Thank you Maryanne.”
“Wait before you go! Would you be interested in accompanying me on a ride?”
“I would love to.”
And with that Lilly was on he way and went back to her home away from home.
Prince William skipped up to his room and went to bed. When morning came he picked out his Ridding cloths and went down to get Starfeild ready for their ride. As William was getting ready he realized he never told his mother or father about his night. They were probably upset that he wandered off. But once he told them they no longer would be mad with him he knew it. So he ran off to see his mother and father. As he bound down the hall he yelled their names.
“Mother, Father!”
He ran into the drawing room
“You will never guess! I met the most amazing girl last night. Her name is Lillian or Lilly for short. From the land of Azmanz.”
“I have heard of them. Don't know much about them I just met her father. He is here on business. Very excellent fellow. “Replies his father.
“How nice dear.”
“ Oh Mother you have no idea. She is great. Cute, funny, and amazing. I have a riding day with her today. Oh wow! I am late I better get going.
“Bye”
He runs out of the drawing room and bolts out to the stables.
                                                  * * * *
William comes into find Lilly giving Starfeild a treat.
“She really does like her treats.”
“Oh I can see that. She is so beautiful.”
“I know, she is the prettiest in all the land. I had better get her saddle.”
William bows and goes to get the saddle for Starfeild. While he is getting the saddle the stable boy gets Jeremy ready. Jeremy was not as elegant as Starfeild, but he was still a very handsome unicorn. When everything was ready they set off. Jeremy and the young lady were some feet ahead of Starfeild and William. This was William’s chance to find out what Starfeild thought of her. There was no way of Lilly over hearing them. Since Starfeild and William have such a special bond they do not need to talk out loud they can do it telepathically. This makes for great conversations between the two while at long boring seminars.
While William and Lilly rode he finds out.
“Are you an only child Lilly?”
“No, I have 3 older brothers.”
“Oh wow. I am an only child. I do not have any siblings. Was it fun growing up with brothers?”
“Yes and no. At times it was fun. But then other times no. Like when they were allowed to go out and play in the river and I had to stay inside and do my studies and act lady like. I was never clean and presentable for very long.”
“How funny. That sounds like great fun.”
“It was.”
Every moment William spent with Lilly the more he liked her. After two weeks of riding, lunches and night time talks, Lilly had to go back home. William’s heart was torn. He did not want her to leave. As he went to see her off he decided that he would ask her father if he could marry Lilly.
One week after Lilly's departure William announced to his parents that he would like tomarry her. His father was outraged. He would not have it. Only two weeks of knowing this girl and he wanted to marry her. William had not spent any time with the other eligible women. But on the other hand William’s mother was delighted to see that he had found someone he wanted to rule with him in the time of the dragon. William’s mother gave him permission to go to the land of Azmanz.
That night his mother came up to his chamber to speak with him.
“William, I am so very happy that you have found someone. Although your father seems rather upset about it he is happy as well. Just give him some time to show it. I can help with that.”
“Thank you mother.”
                                                         * * * * *
As William is getting ready to leave his mother gives him a small box. She says
“This is the ring you will present to Lillian. It has been in our family for many generations. I hope you come home happy.”
“Thank you mother.”
She kisses her son and then off he goes.
It was a rather long trip to Azmanz. About a 2 day trip by horseback. The prince had packed knapsack with some food and other necessary items as well. As the day drug into night Starfeild begins to tire.
“Starfeild how about we stop up at that inn just up the road. We will rest have a good meal and then be on our way in the morning.”
“I could not agree more your highness.”
After they arrive William makes sure that Starfeild is well taken care of and has plenty of oats to eat and fresh water.  After that he goes in and the inn keeper gives him a bowl of hot soup and his room key. After he finishes his soup the prince goes up to his room and falls into a deep sleep.
The next morning comes slightly cloudy skies. After eating a big healthy breakfast the prince and Starfeild are off again.

As William and Starfeild came up to the castle gates of Azmanz William was suddenly very nervous. What if her father said no. What if her father said yes but she said no. What would he do? Starfeild caught on to the prince’s nervousness and stopped. William asks “Why did you stop?” Starfeild replied “You must be calm when you are talking to the ruler of Azmanz. If you are not calm then what you want to say will make no sense at all. So take a deep breath and relax. It will be just fine.” William did so. And to his surprise he was much calmer. He and Starfeild went up to the castle doors and knocked.
Once in side the castle William had to wait in the hall for her father to allow William to talk with him. As William waited he saw the most extraordinary sword. While he was looking at the sword he was allowed in. The butler then showed him to the private drawing room. William sat down and waited for him. When he finally arrived it was very late in the day and it looked like William would have to stay the night in the castle of Azmanz. William said “Sir, I the chosen one. Have come here to ask you if I may have your daughter’s hand in marriage.”
Her father only laughed and said
“Relax boy have a seat. I was wondering when you would come. I knew that you would dance with my daughter at your Elements ball. That is why I did not attend. I also knew that you would be here and ask for her hand in marriage. I just thought you would be here sooner. And yes you may have her hand in marriage. And if I may suggest, do it at midnight. That is the best time to ask a woman to marry you.”
“But sir how did you know?”
“I had a dream and then shortly after I got word that you would be having an Elements ball.”
The prince was so happy he could only sit there and smiled. It was rather late now.  And her father, lord Dashwood had a room prepared for William and sent him up. As Williamwas going up he saw Lillian’s room. He knew that he would have to go in through her window to make a dramatic entrance.
William got settled in his room and began to look around. All of his belongings were there the ring, a change of cloths and even his teddy bear. He felt a sudden jolt of happiness. He forgot how much that bear meant to him. And was very glad his mother had managed to slip it into his bag. He looked down at the hour glass. He had just enough time to go down to the stable and talk to Starfeild. He went out his window climbed down the terrace and across the meadow to see her. When he got there Starfeild was eating a carrot. He said
“Starfeild the king said I could ask Lilly to marry me! Do you have any suggestions for how I should ask her?”
Starfeild replied
“Make sure you have a red rose. That always seems to get the ladies attention. And relax. It will be okay. Try not to show that you are nervous. And you should do fine. Now go be for she goes to sleep.”
William ran up to his room and climbed out the window. He slowly inched his way to Lilly's room. When he got to her window he climbed onto the balcony. It was slightly windy outside so the curtains blew. But the sky was clear. Lilly was sitting in the corner reading a book. When she saw him she said in a frantic state
“What are you doing here? If my father sees you he will have a huge fit! Oh quick go!” All William had to say was
“So what if he does? I have a question for you.”
William got down on his knees gave Lilly the red rose and took her hand pulled out the ring his mother gave him. And said
“Lillian, Will you marry me?”
She just looked at him as her eyes filled with tears. After a few moments She finally answered him
“ Yes William. Yes I will marry you!”
He stood up hugged her and twrilled her around the room.
                                                           * * * * *
It was time for breakfast. William and Lilly walked hand in hand to the breakfast table. When they entered the first thing Lilly said was “ Now father please don't be upset. But I have accepted William’s hand in marriage. And I would like to leave with him today.” Her father stood up and smiled and said “Good. I will have your things packed and you two can be on your way by midday.” Lilly's father then sat down and winked at William. For he knew that those two were made for each other. And that she would help him through the times of danger.
                                                       * * * * *
Lilly's bags were packed and they were ready to go back to the land of time. William insisted that Lilly ride with him on Starfeild. She did not protest. She got on and they were off.
They needed to go back to the palace to plan for the wedding. Announcements, party arrangements the list went on and on.
“ It is about a day's trip to a nice inn Starfeild and I stopped at on the way here. I figured we would stay the night there and then continue in the morning.”
“Sounds excellent to me.”
                                                   * * * * *
After they arrive at the inn William gets a room for each of them. Lilly heads up to her room and Will goes down to the stables to make sure the unicorns are settled and happy.
“Prince William, I believe you have made an excellent choice in choosing Lilly. I really do like her. There is something about her that just feels right.”
“Really Starfeild? That really does take a load off.”
He then gives Starfeild a carrot and then heads up to his room.
After washing up he goes to Lilly's room to ask her if she would like to have dinner withhim.
Knock knock...
“Yes, who is it?”
“It's me. May I come in?”
Lilly  opens the door.
“Why hello. Please do come in.”
“Thank you. I was wondering if you would like to join me for dinner.”
“I would love to. Just give me a bit to wash up.”
And with that she walked into the washroom. Will sat in a chair in the corner and looked out the window. While looking out the window he went into a vision. He had not had them since he was a very young boy, but he remembered his training. Relax the body, don't focus on anything in particular and allow the vision to come. He was in the vision. He was older. And was holding something. Was it a child? He was not sure. Someone was talking to him. It was Ski leader of the Unicorns.
“Prince William, now is the time. You are now to become King. You need to accept the throne. After you are sworn in you then must leave on your journey that lies ahead. Your child will be in safe hands. We will make sure of that.”
And after that William began to leave the vision. More was being said but he knew not to focus on it for it would only drain him. His vision only lasted a few seconds and Lilly was still getting ready. He would have to tell Starfeild about his vision after supper. Although she probably felt he had one. She was likely to have one of her own as well. Again that very powerful bond between them.
William was deep in though and peering out the window and did not notice Lilly was done and standing behind him. She taps him on the shoulder. He jumps and yells.
“Oye!”
“Oh I am very sorry I did not mean to scare you my love, please forgive me.”
“Oh no no. Do not apologize. It is I who should be doing so. I should not have yelled. You startled me. That is all.”
“Ok. Shall we go down stairs and eat then?”
“Sounds good.”
And with that they go down to the dining hall. The chef prepares a fish and salad with a side of bread. After they eat William walks Lilly back up to her room.
“ I will see you in the morning my sweet. Sleep well and good night.”
“Thank you, and you too.”
She kisses him and then turns into her room.
                                                      * * * * *
The next morning prince William wakes up early. And decided to head down to the stable and talk with Starfeild before breakfast.
“I had a vision last night.”
“Is that what that was? I felt something. It felt familiar but I could not quite place it. What was it about?”
“The future. I was holding a child. My child I believe. And it was your father Sky. He was talking to me. He told me that I needed to go on my journey and that it would be ok and my child would be in safe hands.”
“What do you think it means?”
“That times of great danger lay ahead. “
“I think you are right. But you will be ready.”
“I sure do hope so.”
William was absentmindedly stroking Starfeild main, when a cold breeze ran though the stable.
“I think it is time I go inside and prepare for our journey back home. I will make sure to grab some extra saddle blanks for you to help keep you warm. And I'll grab some treats too.”
“Sounds like an excellent plan to me young prince. I will be awaiting your return righthere in the stable, resting.”
“I will see you soon.”
And with that prince William was off back to the inn. He went upstairs to see if Lilly was ready for breakfast. He knocks on the door. Lilly slowly opens the door and as soon as she sees him she smiles.
“Hello William.”
“Hello beautiful. Are you ready for breakfast?”
“All ready.”
They walk down stairs together. For breakfast they have strawberry pancakes with fresh apple juice and bacon.
“I was down at the stables and it feels like it is going to be a cold one today.”
“ I felt the same thing. I had the widow open this morning and had to close it. Good thing I brought some warm clothes with me. The rest of my belongings will be shortly behind us.”
“Good. Well if you are all done we should get going. If we leave soon we will be at the castle by nightfall.”
“I will go pack my overnight bag and will be ready. Shall I meet you down in the stable?”
“Yes, that would be wonderful. Thank you. I will get Starfeild ready. I also need to ask the inn keeper if I can purchase some saddle blankets for Starfeild so she does not get cold either.”
“OK. I will see you soon.”
She stands up from the table and so does William. She turn to walk away and he grabs her hand, pulls her towards him.
“Yes?”
“I just wanted to kiss you.”
                                                          * * * * *
All three are on there way back to the castle.
