Adult Marie Kanker and her male counterpart, Larie.

Marie is not a good person.
I remember the first time I designed a backstory for her, back in 2008. I wrote her to be a depressed/depressing stalker who'd watch Edd through the window every night, until Edd would notice her and feel sorry enough for her to get to know her. After a short while I didn't think it made sense; Marie doesn't cry, she just gets angry. I discovered it was a rather cliché story, I spotted multiple fans having basically the same future set for her.

Eventually I wrote her to be a criminal, which she manages to keep a secret from everyone. We're talking about cutting throats here, not robbing stores.
She started off robbing people on the streets, as she couldn't keep her jobs and and wanted to provide for her mother, but Marie's fabulous personality "rewarded her with a huge promotion" and she ended up leading her own gang of jolly men. Not too long afterwards, she entered the underground criminal world and basically becomes a top mafia boss, calling herself "the ferret". All that, while bothering Edd at the doctor's office for inappropriate corporal examinations.
I've written Marie to be the only Kanker to have escalated like this, as Lee's only crime is entering Eddy's office building while she knows she isn't welcome, and May actually has a job and is fairly normal.

You may wonder if this story is that much better than my first concept, or rather if it fits in the Ed, Edd n Eddy universe, but what's a better love story than an overpowered psychopath who gives up her high status for the one she loves. Luwl.
Anyway, I'm still happy I scrapped my first concept, as I come across way too many stories and drawings where Marie has this "invisible beauty"-thing going on, is misunderstood, cuts her wrists, etc.
She doesn't come across as a mysterious puzzle. Maybe it just doesn't appeal to me anymore because it's so overdone. It stays an okey concept, though.

The scarred, blind eye was a fake theory I once made up, though originally less detailed than portrayed here. The eye used to be blind, and she missed a piece of her eyebrow. I would've totally used the theory if Marie's eye had never been revealed.
Now it's a result of the backstory I gave her, and it gives her a good reason to keep the strange goth hairdo even when she's an old woman. I didn't really understand that from Marie's elderly design.
