Background:

While he has little memory of what became of his parents, he does remember the life he had in the sewers underground when he was very young. No orphanage would take in a monster of the night as he was damned to call the drainage system his only home. He lived among the homeless in the protective shadows away from the light of day, trying to conceal that what revealed his species when night fell. The people that took refuge underground had welcomed him despite his differences, taught him to read and write as well as basic schooling that they had retained before poverty had struck the land and robbed its citizens of their homes. Around the age of 14, the sewers were purged of the refugees who took shelter there by the authorities. Innocents slain as they had made no contributions to society, deemed as garbage to be taken out and swept clean. Josiah was smuggled out to safety while the purge took place and never looked back as he fled the country.

It was then over the course of the next 7 years that he began his life on the run, being chased out of every place he had tried to thrive and live peacefully. The natives were constantly unforgiving to his presence, casting him away and refusing his pleas for help and shelter from the morning light. More often than not, it was common for Josiah to spend nights recuperating in varying mausoleums at the cemetery from prolonged exposure to daylight. Picking away at the burnt flesh from his body that had been scorched by the sun's rays, a glimmer of hope that he would survive the day in the safety of the tomb without being discovered. He fed from the livestock on the farmland, a sense of guilt as he dreaded harming innocent life, even the lives of the cattle that grazed peacefully. The cycle only repeated over and over again.

The attacks from natives.
The lack of shelter from the sun.
The countless days and nights tending to the burned flesh of his body.
Prayers that the damage wasn't too far this time.
Draining the blood from every cow, chicken, and horse.
Loneliness and hatred of ones own species.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat.

Yet a glimmer of hope did arise as his travels ultimately led him to an usual place.
