Description
This creature haunted my nightmares since I was 8...
I first heard about this beast from my grandpa, who told me about an african spirit that looks like a bird, only when it get closer you notice that it's as big as a man.
It has no flesh or feathers, but wood and hay in their place.
It moves in couples at night, and unfortunately it eats flesh (and it prefers young flesh).
It has not a name among natives, so much is the fear it causes (but maybe my grandpa did not ask it to them).
It reminds me of the "Ja te Vejo", which means "I see you", another terryfing creature from african tales, and in particular from Madagascar.
But instead of looking like an inanimate object and being actually made of flesh this flying nightmarish spirit looks like a normal living animal, despite being actually made of inanimate matter.
Despite this the malicious intent seems to be the same, look inoffensive and get close enough to devour humans.
(I don't know if this is an actual myth from african folklore or if the old man made it up, I could not find any text referencing it, but it terryfied me when I was little).
