I love your comics and your art so much. Your main characters are really awesome and you convey so much of their personality with just a few expressions and words.
Β However, a better way to convey the soldiers' lack of combat experience would be to change the dialogue. "It's only the second week of basic training! We're supposed to start combat next week!" or something along those lines. Remember that even characters who show up for only a single panel also live in the world you're building. We just don't get the same in-depth look at their backgrounds and personality as the main characters.

It's a bit hard to see what kind Cretan is doing in that last panel althouh the next page makes it clear enough (and you can guess what he's doing)
