EARLY WORK retcon! I know I may have promised I wouldn't but I did. The strike went on and on so have to keep the devil's woodshed humming. I've made a deliberate point the last few months to deep dive into several YouTube channels - my favourite is Cartoonist Kayfabe - and rethink many of my preconceived notions related to graphic storytelling, novelty, fun, playing with time and place, drawing and rendering, defining some foundational goals and some a bit more esoteric. So I dove back into the 1988 - 2023 catalogue and jumped into Bloodwing #2, a series I did MANY years ago for Eternity comics during the black-and-white boom. A book, incidentally, I had no real business doing at that stage of development but into the canal with you Johnny. You've seen what I've done before, sitting with my 20-year-old self and giving a long think on how I'd approach the same story now. While not a flawless glow-up by any stretch of the imagination, the clearer drive is to get a much better sense of place and this book is so exposition-heavy heavy how to move it along with panel economy to make space for all the jibber jabber. I've dropped in a couple guest stars from Cyberpunk 2077 for fun cameos. As always, purely for fun so take it in the spirit in which it's intended.
