Lol, the same boat was there when I took a photo (not uploaded here because it's a huge panorama shot) and I agree on the sandflies. The most aggressive ones I've come across. Initially we had thought about having a picnic but after those ferocious little beasts were crawling all over us (despite repellent), we just fled.

Thanks for the comment. I think that boat belongs either to the resort located beside the lake or to Fish and Game or the Dept of Conservation, so it will always be there. I took this in Feb 2007 and it was there again in Jan 2010. The sandflies are the main reason many people don't go there often and the good thing about that is that its never crowded

Ah, thanks for the info. When I was there, I saw a couple (?) sitting in the boat looking rather amused at our dance with the sandflies. I'm not sure if I want to know what kind of repellent they used... But if the boat belongs to a resort they probably make sure their guests don't get eaten alive

You're welcome! I think Lake Rotoroa is a good place to make great shots, maybe because of the mountains in the backgrounds, and of the reflection... in fact, NZ is a good place to make great shots

those mountains and that lake is gorgeous! it looks so tranquil and a great place to relax. that mini pier thing with the boat isn't really necessary in this picture, but it's not too bad either
wonderful shot

Thanks for those comments. I always try and add something to the foreground in landscape/waterscape shots. It adds dimension and scale, and brings some life to the shot. Those are my personal feelings though.

LOL! You must be referring to St Arnaud. Yes, its one of NZ,s most beautiful regions and pretty rugged too. I used to live in Nelson and then shifted to Westport, so I passed through this area often.
