They meet the same way Narukami meets everyone. In other words, via his sister’s inappropriate introductions.

“This is Hachiouji Rui,” she says. “Everybody calls him ‘the Prince’ though.”

“Uh huh,” replies Narukami skeptically.

The yellow and black Kodryma shrugs with a smirk behind dark brown fur. “I dare you to yell ‘it’s a trap’ as the third sentence in your conversation.”

“What are the stakes?”

“The usual – I’ll do whatever you say for a week if you win, and you’ll do whatever I say for a week if I win.”

Rationally, Narukami knew that this was a bad idea. He knows little about the Kodryma he was to meet and statistically, his sister rarely ever lost her bets with him. But his ‘competitive twin’ fire had been lit and he nodded wit his mouth pursed in a grim line.

“Very well, I accept.”

Niche grins. “Go on then, greet ‘im.”

Silver eyes narrowed and tail tensed in readiness to flee, the pink and blue male approaches the webbed winged Kodryma.

“Hello, I’m Narukami,” he greets.

“Hachiouji Rui – but don’t be fooled by the name, I’m a hundred percent female.”

‘It’s a trap indeed,’ thinks Narukami to himself. Now he sees why his sister was so wretchedly smug when he agreed.

“IT’S A TRAP!” he yells anyway, before turning tail and sprinting away. Unfortunately, with a greater wingspan and powerful back muscles, Rui is a much better flier than Narukami with his short and stubby Arctic wings. It doesn’t take long before he’s tackled from behind with a triumphant roar.

“What did you just say?” snarls the enraged female from on top of him, draconic wings clasped around him like an extra pair of giant hands.

“Um, nothing?” he whimpers. Her knees are digging into his kidneys and his captor is mercilessly putting all her weight on his delicate organs.

“Think you’re funny do you, Admiral Fish-head?” she hisses. “Making fun of poor little Rui with the boyish name and crown on her head, mm?”

Narukami moans weakly under her. He doesn’t know the story behind half the things she’s spouting off but even so, he knows that he’s hit on some very sore spot for the female. He wonders if this can be classified as a form of PTSD, then all thoughts perish when she digs her bony kneecap straight into his left kidney. He squeaks pathetically and the distant cackle of his sister tells him that every second of his humiliation is being caught on tape. A small part of him mind curses his sister. He should have known better – clearly this was her plan all along. Now not only will he not get a week of servitude from her, he’ll be lucky if she doesn’t hold this tape over his head for the rest of his life.

“Handsome little Rui with the princely crown on her head,” sing-songs the deranged Kodryma into his ear, “gotta part her fur to see if she’s not hiding some boy bits down there.”

He cringes and tries to wriggle free.

“But little Rui doesn’t take that lying down so she’s got to be a boy in disguise, huh? And then all the little cubs gather up in front of the teacher and told her to change her gender on the roll. And do you know what she did?” she breathes into his ear.

“She changed Rui from a little girl Kodryma to a little boy Kodryma and told her that lying was bad.”

Her claws dig into his flesh, slicing through fur and skin to bury themselves deep enough to draw blood. He squirms, but she holds firm.

“And from that day on, all the little boys and girls yelled: ‘it’s a trap!’ whenever they saw poor Hachiouji Rui.”

’Well, that’s got to be traumatising,’ muses Narukami as he gasps for breath under her chokehold. She flexes her arms, tightening her grip and he tries to get his front claws out from under her to pull at the strangulating hold.

“So you know what little bullied Rui did?”

He gives a gurgled cry.

“She taught them all a lesson that they’ll never forget.”

Narukami sees his vision tunneling and black spots dance before his eyes. Sound fades and all he can hear is the blood rushing through his ears. He feels somewhat detached from the limp body caught in the crushing hold of the female Kodryma.

“… … …”

He knows that his attacker is still speaking, but he can no longer make out the words…
