Description
Another commission done for the original "Discovering Biblical Israel" series on God's Learning Channel. Depicted is a small portion of the ancient columbarium caves within the ruins of ancient Maresha at the Beit Guvrin National Park in Israel. Originally believed to be the storage place for funerary urns (which is what traditional columbariums in other nations are for), these caves were actually used for raising pigeons for fertilizer and/or doves for ceremonial or sacrificial use.
