Description This is a pencil sketch done with pencil over a 8"x5.5" sheet of paper in maybe half hour of a Boreal Owl. I used some photographs as references...

I'm writing an epic novel that involves this owl. Her name is BΓ‘nΓΊ. That means Dawn in Irish.
I've decided that I'll do the illustrations of the novel that I hope to publish sometime. I'm really excited about it!! I hope to finish it soon too. It's taking me a lot of time to write it... and I've left the other one, far more complicated and lengthy, in pause.

LOVED: The owl herself is beautiful; just drawing her was a real delight.

HATED: nothing!

This little guy looks way too cute. I was just browsing through your fantastic animal studies and now I'm really inspired to do more of them by myself Do you draw them from life sometimes (like zoo)? I always have problems since they move to quick.

It depends you know... I did some zoo studies but now that I'm studying just one animal I do them from pictures. Last time I went to the zoo I was able to study owls, giraffes, elephants, emus, lions and hippos. The rest of the animals did move quickly but it was interesting though, to see how much I could capture in the little time they let me. And interesting story though is that I was flocked by a dozen of kids everytime I started drawing, and sometimes their parents!

Half an hour to draw this...?! Excuse me while I retrieve my teeth from the floor, where they just fell... Amazing--I would have guessed a project length of several days for this quality of feather detail and light...the eyes are riveting...it's just amazing! I'm in awe--and this is a definite !

I was inspired that day... one of those unusual days when everything seems to work... it seemed more easy. Traffic, the fact that it was New Year's vacation, good mood, excellent company, it all helped!!!

Thanks.. I hope to finish it soon too but it will take a while. Lots of work still and if my dream of illustrating it turns into reality then it'll take much more time and a ton of work. BUT IT WILL BE WORTHWHILE!

Actually I have this philosophy where you fight the battles you must and sometimes loosing purposedly is the best strategy.

BUT IN THIS CASE: WINNING IS THE ONLY CHOICE!

I love owls....as a matter of fact...all birds....I'm still looking for the perfect owl sot.....so far I have only gotten one owl shot that I eally like......
