Another concept for 'Durin,' a Tolkien-inspired webcomic series I'm planning, which will cover the life of Durin the Deathless, and the gathering of his people in Khazad-Dum in the early days of Middle-Earth's history.these were just trying to figure out how the dwarves would address the challenge of bridging the great chasm that Gandalf and the Balrog fall into many thousands of years later.

My own inherent understanding was that the Dwarves had discovered and utilized a natural formation. Naturally being themselves, the Dwarves would have seena refined shape within the rough natural arch and slowly sculpted it into a bridge that looked slender and frail, but was strong and inherently stable. It would take the power of a Wizard to sunder; no lesser force would suffice.Β
That being said, there is more than one way to imagine things. Maybe there was Β Dwarven version of Roebling or Archimedes in Durin's band.Β
