Description As if I could ever leave
Those southern bayous,
They run in my veins.
Such peaceful,
Stagnant waters,
Slowly making its way
To who knows—
Who cares—
Where.
People run for their lives
When the winds blow
And the trees shake,
Makes no difference to me—
I inherited your indifference.
When they dress me
For my last parade,
I hope the mortitioner
Brought his cast net,
Because the only way I’ll leave
These living waters
Is if they leave me first.
