Like soldiers in defeat,Who kick their feet out to the sky,
In the summer heat
We wonder, why?
How did all of this happen,
In such a short time?
It was just last week,
We rose with a clear purpose
As dawn lit the street
New dreams, with new lights,
Paving and painting their sight
With a righteous might.
Something in the night,
Sounded in our deepest parts,
And settled as fright.
Everything masked gray.
Nothing could get through to us,
No matter the say?
Now when the trees bloom,
I take pictures to my heart,
Where I hold no room.
Whispers fill all space,
Grasping tightly to us with
No end in place.
Silence is our scream,
Of broken needs, wilted dreams,
All now common scene.
When will sight return?
Soothing and controlling the
Open space that burns.
