In the midst of WW2 their was another event happening in the Pacific ocean. Geothermic and volcanic activity was effecting the isle known as Skull Island causing it to sink into the ocean during the the late 1940's. This activity had been effecting the island for thousands; even, millions of years which saved it from being whipped out 65 million years ago because thermal vents kept the island temperate, even tropical while most of the world was freezing. The vents allowed many of the plant and animal species to thrive not knowing the peril that struck the rest of the world. As time went by the world began to heal and larger forms of animals that took hold on the mainland began to evolve. One of these Animals that evolved on the mainland over time was the bear. Bears are opportunistic animals and can eat almost anything and use a verity of ways to get its meal.
In a case of parallel evolution, a dinosaur that stemmed from the Acrocanthosaurus evolved to live a similar life style to the bear. Avarusaurus (meaning Greedy lizard) has been around about 13 million years in its current state of evolution. Avarusaurus evolved on Skull Island to be able to devour almost anything from various plants to fungi and moss to insects to carrion and fish. Larger Theropod dinosaurs had taken niches in hunting big game which forced Avarusaurus to take this role. This does not mean Avarusaurus is defenseless. It possesses an enlarged middle finger and claw which it uses in a multitude of way such as hunting for fish, wracking in leaves and defense against predators such as foetodons and venatosaurs. It's strength, weapons and powerfully acidic stomach acid helped survive in this sinking world. Opportunistic in nature a few of these wonderful reptiles where able to survive the island sinking by a few scattered rock outposts by fishing and feeding on funguses and bark.
It was the sinking of Skull island itself that started the Monster Island Project. When Skull Island sank, as many creatures and plant species as possible where saved from death and over a periods of a few months a few dozen creatures were rescued by American, German and Japanese boats. When Monster Island was selected, different waves of creatures where released over a coarse of 3 years starting out with highly endangered herbivores. Seeing as Avarusaurus proved itself to be omnivorous in captivity, they where releases sometime in the middle of this operation and since that point had thrived to the large population it is now. Over 240 known specimens now exist throughout the jungle and swamps.
Avarusaurus once again similar to the bear actually are solitary creatures which each individual having around 15 square miles of territory to hunt and scavenge. only during mating season that lasts from late April to early may do they ever travel in mating pairs. During this time the Males while possibly fight each other possibly to the death for females but this is rare. After they first meet the male will stick around to mate with the female several times over the short season then will leave soon before the female lays her eggs. Much like Alligators the female will dig a whole in the dirt and rotting foliage to deposit around 4-8 eggs. The eggs are leathery and tough, roughly around 120 millimeters long and 80 millimeters in diameter. They take 90 days to hatch out in which the mother digs them out with her one large claw. The infants then follow the mother for 9 months then the mother will chase them away to find their own territories. However survival rate is low, only 1 out of 5 will survive. Only vary rarely do brothers or sisters share the same territory as adults.
Avarusaurus is colored with dark splotches in order to help it camouflage in the jungle. but sometimes they can be either pure white or pure black. This keeps them safe from larger predators and help them sneak up to steal carrion from a carcass probably killed by a Vastatosaurus or Indominus Rex. One event in the 1980's happened when an Avarusaurus tried to scavenge from a Skull Island Brutornis and met with its axe like head. A fight broke out with the Brutornis trying to bite into the Avarusaurus's neck while in return it constantly stood like a kangaroo and tried to wave its claws and gore the Brutornis. They are more quadrupedal then bipedal similar to a hadrosaur. This fight caused the Brutornis to abandon its kill but left the Avarusaurus with a detached arm when the Brutornis bit a chunk of flesh of its left forearm but it still did get a whole baby parasaurolophus ingen.
Avarusaurus is still growing in numbers to this day and are thriving in their new Monster Island.
