Description TRDL 2012 Series, No. 42- Nichelle [Femme Fatale]

This was done for the 2012 TRDL OC Art Swap, which you can read about and join, if desired, here: [link]

Nichelle is one of the members of a team of investigators called the Femme Fatales, if I recall the background on this properly, as created by Taylor on dA, under the name, not surprisingly, FemmeFatale. There are several looks for this character in his gallery, and the woman is modeled loosely after Kelly Rowland. I chose to straighten her hair to play up her tallness, gave her a daisho (katana and wakizashi) and a few trinkets, for science. Where he boots went, only she knows. The pic above is part of the Wrongrobot's Rudiments series, this time the letter F.

You can find process notes on my site, and a Third Rail Thrills variant in my gallery...

I love how confident and calm she seems here, and the details in her costume is gorgeous though my favorite bit here is her hairstyle which reminds me of Cleopatra from Ancient Egyptian history.

This is a really excellent picture. I love a lot of things about this pic: Nichelle's pose is great, her expression is awesome, and the "F is for Femme Fatale" is a really clever touch

Wow! I have to say that I've actually been really looking forward to this art swap and was truly racking my brain trying to think about how Nichelle would come out. I have to say that every possible expectation of mine was exceeded. Nichelle looks absolutely fabulous and I feel so incredibly guilty that my half of the trade (my drawing of Morphine) couldn't look as put together as this!

The overall feel of this piece is quite unique and I love the relaxed vibe that it has. Her pose contributes to this obviously. Despite the fact that she's seated, it's quite clear that she's got legs for days. Her legs look quite lean and even really like how her toenails are painted. It's a nice touch. Seeing her costume rendered in someone else's style is incredibly cool and words cannot express how amazing it is to see one of my characters drawn by someone other than myself since the interpretation is just so unbelievably awesome. The earrings are a smart addition as well. They look great on her. Whether it was intentional or not, she actually does resemble Kelly Rowland here. I mostly see it in her eyes actually and in part with the lips. I know you asked about her hairstyle to which I mostly gave free reign (just that it should be long) and I like what you came up with since it's not unlike something that Kelly Rowland would have. It's pin-straight with the harshly cut bangs. I also really dig that you chose a straight style in order to emphasize her height. It's smart. Lastly, there's her weaponry. It was a suggestion I made and I was actually really psyched to see how it would end up being put into the final piece. It truly rounds off this drawing really well and it shows off who this character is. The details that have been put into drawing her weaponry is astounding and I could really just look at them for several minutes at a time. I love that her signature colour (green) gets put into the weapon design. As I mentioned at the start of the paragraph, this piece has such a cool vibe to it and that is in part because the uniqueness of the character is being emphasized. Here's an African-American character being drawn in a way we typically only see of Asian characters. It's really nice.

I really want to thank you for drawing this piece and for also making me aware of the art swap. It was such a fantastic opportunity and words cannot express how grateful I am. This is such a gorgeous work of art.
