[Taming 10] || WF86Since she was a kid, Sadie had always wanted to be better than everyone at everything. Her competitive nature was something that everyone said she got from her father, but some speculated she was just a brat who hated not getting her way. Lucius, Onikaan, and Atropos didn’t care what her motives were for going out to find Castella as long as they got to tag along. She was becoming their good friend, and even Akail and Nephthys were getting close to the wild dam. Sadie wasn’t even sure why she was trying to tame the beast – to prove she was better than her cousin or because she was genuinely forming some sort of bond with the female. Castella had been cold, distant, and indifferent toward Sadie since day one, but as the week progressed and as they were nearing a second full week of trying to convince Castella that they were good for her, it seemed the wild tokota was developing a soft spot for the human. [Taming 9] || WF86Atropos and Onikaan chased Lucius around the yard while they waited for Sadie to get back from the barn. Akail and Nephthys sat quietly in the shade, watching the others have a good time. They would have joined in, but they were working double duty, being used by both handlers at the farm for the same purpose – to try to tame a wild beast. Sadie was pursuing a tundra dam named Castella, who was far less intimidating than Hati, the wild dire everyone was going mad over. The tokotas seemed to really like Castella. She had good energy and was a ton of fun, and since she wasn’t entirely ignoring Sadie anymore, it was a lot more fun to try to find her in the woods. It was a like a daily game of hide and seek, and Sadie was getting good at it. She wouldn’t have found the beast at all if not for Lucius, Atropos, and Onikaan. [Taming 8] || WF86Sadie pulled her boots on with some enthusiasm. She was getting excited about the trip she had planned out into the woods for her tokotas to track down Castella again. The handler was foolishly starting to get hopeful, feeling like she might be making some actual progress. Atropos, Onikaan, and Lucius were to thank for that. They had made friends with the wild dam faster than she had expected, and that had given her a way in, a way to communicate with a female who otherwise would have just ignored her. Akail and Whisper were helping too. Sadie realized that riding them into Castella’s territory probably made her uncomfortable so the handler had spent the last few trips into the woods on foot. Whisper and Akail made sure that Castella knew they held no grudge, harbored no hard feelings toward Sadie, though. Sadie nodded and dipped into the storage room of the barn at her cousin’s suggestion. Sure enough, a box of unopened treats sat perched on the top shelf. The handler snagged them and took them back out into the barn, tearing into them and stuffing several into a container already filled with mixed ingredients. Lucius, Atropos, Onikaan, Whisper, and Akail watched with unveiled hunger, all but drooling over the container. Akail, Whisper, Atropos, and Onikaan were enough to deal with on a normal day, but she had also had the bright idea to drag Lucius into the mess, and she was going to take the male out with them to find Castella. The handler had high hopes that Lucius might help them. He had a way with wild tokotas, and his owner was generous enough to loan him out on occasion. Sadie had jumped at the chance to take him out with Akail, Whisper, Atropos, and Onikaan. She wanted the best odds for herself as she could get. She wanted to beat her cousin, win the taming race. Every story she had ever heard about handlers going out to tame wild tokotas had ended with her scoffing and mocking the people who tried. When her cousin had decided, out of the blue, that she would take Onikaan and Atropos out to tame a wild tokota for the first time, Sadie had mocked her too. But as the handler finished brushing them down and left them with Akail and Whisper as she packed a quick bag, Sadie knew she had changed, times had changed.
